Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking a Decontamination Technician (Contract) to perform housekeeping and decontamination within Radiological Control Areas at the Surry plant, VA, or other locations as needed.

The role involves operating test equipment such as high-pressure washers, RP meters, and laundry machines, with training and certification to decon tasks as directed by Radiation Protection. Some positions may require respirator training and the ability to work in challenging conditions.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Pass a drug test.
• Pass a security background check.

Responsibilities

• Climb ladders and work at multiple heights.
• Meet all applicable requirements to maintain unescorted access.
• Able to lift 50 pounds.
• Complete training/certification to operate equipment including high-pressure sprayers/vacuums, RP meters and cranes.
• Understand oral and written communications, technical requirements, procedures and directives.
• May require a respirator physical and training.
• Work in adverse conditions such as high temperatures and confined spaces.

About the Role

As a Decontamination Technician (Contract) you will perform housekeeping / decontamination activities in all Radiological Control Areas. Operate various test equipment and machines such as high-pressure washers, laundry machines, RP meters, etc. Due to the broad diversity of work activities, most employees may be required to certify to all decon specific tasks as directed by the Radiation Protection department.

You will report to the site coordinator and be located at your assigned plant in Surry, VA or other locations as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Ability to climb ladders and work at multiple heights
• Meet all applicable requirements to maintain unescorted access
• Able to lift 50 pounds
• Complete training / certification to operate different equipment including:
  • High pressure sprayers/vacuums
  • All pendant cranes
  • Hoist
  • Miscellaneous equipment
• Understand oral and written communications, technical requirements, procedures and directives associated with working at a nuclear plant.
• May require a respirator physical and training
• Work in adverse conditions such as high temperatures, confined spaces.

Qualifications

• Minimum of High School Diploma or GED
• Pass a drug test

The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $17/hour to $20/hour.
