Qualifications

Job description

The Decoil Operator is a key member of the EDCOAT Paint Line team. This full-time, non-exempt position is based in New Carlisle, IN and reports to the Paint Line Supervisor. This individual’s primary functions are the operating and controlling of the decoiler and the “stitching” of coils as directed by the Paint Line Supervisor.

An individual in this position must be able to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed described. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

  • Checking in and recording details of coils in the decoiling process.
  • Loading and moving coils by crane, forklift, coil car, or coil tipper onto mandrels, prime coils, or stringers.
  • Verifying (visually and manually) accuracy of coil size, weight, and gauge as provided by coil tag and shop order paperwork.
  • Adjusting decoiler actions by means of a control panel to insure proper line tension and speed according to customer and product specifications.
  • Cutting banding and aligning coils for “stitching” to maintain continuous flow of production process.
  • Documenting coil weights and numbers accurately during the decoiling process.
  • Disposing of scrap materials in accordance with customer specifications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Previous manufacturing experience (Required).
  • High school diploma or equivalency (Preferred).
  • Completion of vocational training in high school or technical school training after high school (Preferred).
  • Previous experience using overhead cranes, forklifts, or other material handling equipment (Preferred).
  • Previous paint line and/or decoiler operation-related skill, knowledge, or experience (Preferred).
Physical Demands

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

  • The Decoil Operator position requires extended periods of walking and standing on concrete surfaces, regular periods of stooping, bending, or sitting, and extensive use of hands to manipulate and/or regulate tools or decoiler controls as indicated by the product specifications
  • The decoiler position requires the ability to manually lift 50 pounds from floor to waist level and the ability to manually push/pull 50 pounds.
  • Decoil Operators are scheduled to work 12 hour shifts weekly with occasional extension of regular working hours as necessary to meet production deadlines and exceed customer expectations.
  • Extreme caution must be exercised when working around moving/rotating machinery or metal strips.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be worn as needed in compliance with Edcoat, LLC’s standards and/or government regulations.
