Job summary

Kiewit is seeking personnel for dredge operations, reporting to the Captain. The role involves mooring, deck maintenance, loading/unloading, and upkeep of dredging assets. The candidate must be able to live aboard and work extended rotations, understand hand signals, and follow written and oral instructions.

Responsibilities emphasize safety, including deployment of survival craft and evacuation readiness, plus adherence to site procedures for a zero-incident environment.

  • Assist with lubrication of deck machinery.
  • Load and unload materials from the dredge, deck barges, scows and equipment.
  • Sweep and wash down all decks on the dredge and attending plant.
  • Chip and paint decks and superstructure of the dredge and attending plant.
  • Assist with work on the pontoon line, submerge line, scow or attending plant.
  • Assist with work on the anchors and spud systems.
  • Assist with cleaning of the pump and work on the cutter head.
  • Responsible for safe deployment of survival craft and evacuation of site personnel (MMC with AB endorsement).
  • Follows safety policies and aims for an "Incident and Injury Free" work environment.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Load and unload materials from the dredge, deck barges, scows and miscellaneous dredging equipment.
  • Sweep and wash down all decks on the dredge and attending plant.
  • Chip and paint decks and superstructure of the dredge and attending plant.
  • Assist with work on the pontoon line, submerge line, scow or attending plant.
  • Assist with work on the anchors and spud systems.
  • Assist with cleaning of the pump and work on the cutter head.
  • Responsible for the safe and timely deployment of survival craft and evacuation of site personnel (If has MMC with AB endorsement).
  • Follows company and work site safety policies/procedures and commits to an “Incident and Injury Free” work environment.

  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with craft workers under his/her supervision and management/supervision.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools and layout tools safely and efficiently.
Requirements
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) preferred, or willing to obtain upon hire.
  • Must be able to tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels.
  • Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend or stand for long periods of time, and climb ladders.
  • Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies and parts up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Performs other duties as required.
