Meet HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding

With more than 25,000 employees – including third-, fourth- and even fifth-generation shipbuilders – HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division is the largest industrial employer in Virginia. We’re the sole designer, builder and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines. The Role

Deck electricians are largely responsible for the installation, repair, overhaul, and operational testing of the electrical systems aboard the ship. Electricians can be working on one of the many electrical systems aboard the ship including lighting, power distribution, communication or navigation. Electricians read and interpret complex electrical and electronic schematics. The job of an electrician is unique in that it requires an individual that can quickly switch between differing tasks ranging from lighting and receptacle hook-ups, installing wire way racks, rebuilding equipment, installing electronic controls, lighting maintenance, performing preventative maintenance, or welding of studs for mounting equipment.

This position is for job seekers who have received and provide a certificate or diploma in Electrical or a directly related field. Directly related fields include Commercial/Residential/Industrial/Aviation Electrical, Renewable Energy, Generator Installation, and/or Appliance Repair.
