Job summary

Manson Construction Co. in Houma, LA seeks a Deck Captain to direct all deck activities for dredge operations. The position requires extensive travel and leadership of a small crew aboard marine vessels.

You will supervise deck departments, coordinate submerged pipelines, plan evolutions, ensure safety, quality and compliance with company standards, and actively develop crew skills while maintaining ethical conduct and a safe working environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience aboard a similar vessel, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Organized to maintain inventories on crane and support barges.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities for small crew.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical plans and to write reports and procedures.

Summary

The Deck Captain is responsible for directing all deck activities in relation to the dredge operation. Extensive travel will be required for this position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Supervises deck departments and coordinates daily operations
• Responsible for the training and development of all crew members
• Responsible for coordinating and directing submerged pipeline evolutions
• Assist in the planning for all major evolutions include dredge tows and submerged pipeline operations
• Supervises/Coordinates during submerged pipeline operations
• Responsible for executing work as planned and holding the crew accountable for following given work plans and procedures
• Initiates corrective and preventative actions to ensure goals are met
• Maintain and enforce a safe working environment.
• Ensures compliance with Manson's Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct. Maintain a high standard of ethical behavior, encourages ethical behavior in others, supports ethical decisions and actively seeks appropriate resolution to potential ethical conflicts.
• Maintain standards of safety and comply with Company's Health, Safety & Environment Management System requirements.
• Take reasonable care of own health and safety and that of others in the workplace.
• Follow and maintain Company standards of Quality in accordance with Company Quality Control System requirements
• Supervises craft personnel during all deck activities
• Ensures adherence to all applicable health, safety and environmental company policies.
• Responsible for writing / participating in work plans and JSA's for the safe execution of all work projects.
• Responsible for assuring those skill sets of personnel under their direction align to the task at hand.
• Additional duties may be assigned

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience aboard a similar vessel, of which at least 3 years must be in a supervisory capacity
• Experience with Microsoft Office
• Valid drivers license required
• Must be organized to efficiently maintain the inventories on the crane barge as well as other support supply barges
• Able to communicate well as part of a small team, and work cooperatively with other colleagues.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical plans. Ability to write reports, business letters and correspondence, spreadsheets, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.

The employee must be able to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) required of various work environments (hard hats, personal floatation devices, safety glasses, respirators, etc.). The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers, to grasp, grip, handle, or feel. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is required to sit, stand, walk, use stairs, ladders, and step stools and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to navigate stairs, ladders and gangways, board, work on and disembark floating vessels and structures, and be able to transfer from one vessel to another while at sea.
