Debt Collector – Spruce Power
Spruce Power, a leading provider of solar energy to over 53,000 customers, is the nation’s #1 independent residential solar servicing company. This full‑time role is located in Houston, TX. Compensation ranges from $19 to $21 per hour, plus $1 per hour for bilingual candidates. Working hours: Monday – Thursday 8:00am – 7:00pm, Friday 8:00am – 6:00pm. No weekends.
The candidate will drive account resolution and maximize recovery by ensuring timely follow‑up and effective solutions for internal and external billing and delinquency-related inquiries. The Debt Collector will be detail‑oriented, dependable, productive, and possess strong work ethics, organizational skills, and the ability to manage complex account balances, resolve discrepancies, and secure payment arrangements. This role supports internal operations by reducing delinquency, improving cash flow, and ensuring accounts are managed in alignment with company standards and recovery goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Communicate with customers via inbound and outbound phone calls.
- Manage assigned accounts and plan courses of action to recover outstanding debts.
- Update account status and database regularly.
- Validate customer information, including addresses, contact details, and authentication steps.
- Review terms of sales agreements and explain them to customers to increase understanding of contract obligations.
- Adhere to FDCPA, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Comply with company policies and procedures.
- Locate customers using skip‑trace sites, internet, and credit bureaus.
- Operate multiple servicing platforms to investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external partners.
- Comply with requirements when legal action is unavoidable.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 2 years of collections experience.
- Technical knowledge to change, add, or delete information in servicing platforms.
- Problem‑solving skills to resolve issues quickly for the company and customers.
- Knowledge of FDCPA regulations.
- Critical thinking skills.
- Basic understanding of consumer agreement documents.
- Typing speed of at least 30 words per minute with no grammatical errors.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email.
- Strong math skills.
- Teamwork and collaboration with other departments.
- Ability to work unsupervised after initial training.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
