Job description

Position Overview

The Dean of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy serves as the School’s chief executive and academic officer, leading its vision, mission, academic and research enterprise, advancement, and overall administration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide academic, intellectual, and administrative leadership to the School, ensuring its strategic direction and operational excellence.
  • Plan for, steward, and allocate fiscal and material resources to support educational, research, and service programs.
  • Administer the School’s educational, research, and public‑service programs; collaborate with faculty and administrators on strategic decisions.
  • Recommend faculty appointments, promotions, and tenure decisions to the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost.
  • Represent the School on university policy bodies and to external constituencies; serve as the principal liaison to external organizations.
  • Lead advancement and development activities, presenting the School’s accomplishments and needs to the Foundation board and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with UNC general policies, affirmative‑action regulations, and professional accreditation standards; oversee risk‑management planning.
  • Steward the School’s satellite campus at Asheville, NC, and lead strategic planning and policy development.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Earned terminal degree, a record of exceptional leadership success, and evidence of scholarly, professional, or creative achievement.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • Extensive experience in pharmacy professional and graduate program administration and executive leadership.
  • Progressive academic leadership experience.
  • Strong track record of independently‑funded scholarship.
  • Demonstrated record of fostering excellence in research, teaching, and service.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • Prior experience in a pharmacy school administrative role.
  • Ability to think strategically and build effective institutional partnerships.
  • High standard of professional integrity and strong team‑building skills.
  • Ability to articulate the School’s vision and mission to students, faculty, alumni, practitioners, external funding agencies, and decision‑making bodies.
Additional Information

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority and will report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete required annual training.
