Job summary

The University of Wisconsin–Madison invites applications for the position of Dean of the School of Nursing. The SoN develops nurse leaders and advocates for the profession through research, education, practice, policy, and outreach, enrolling over 1,200 students.

We seek a transformative leader who will secure funding, guide strategic initiatives, ensure accreditation, and collaborate across UW System to advance academic and clinical excellence.

Qualifications

• Proven record of transformative leadership in higher education.
• Vision for addressing challenges in nursing education, research, and practice.
• Strong skills in strategic planning, financial stewardship, personnel management, and fundraising.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of new educational programs and initiatives.
• Act as Chief Academic Officer ensuring academic integrity and accreditation compliance.
• Secure external funding from government, foundations, and partners.
• Oversee multi‑unit budgets and resource allocation.
• Guide mission, vision, and strategic framework aligned with UW‑Madison goals.
• Collaborate with deans, campus leaders, and partners for interdisciplinary initiatives.
• Ensure regular review of programs per university policies and accreditation standards.
• Provide oversight of academic, administrative, and operational functions.
• Represent the School of Nursing in local, national, and international forums.
• Advocate for nursing education and scholarship across diverse populations.
• Lead recruitment, development, evaluation, and retention of faculty and staff.
