The Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the Elmezzi Graduate School of Molecular Medicine. The institution is seeking an exceptional, dynamic and visionary physician-scientist capable of leading this unique PhD program to train physicians to conduct basic and translational research related to human physiology and disease. Reporting to Dr. Kevin J. Tracey, President of the Elmezzi Graduate School of Molecular Medicine, the Dean will have the opportunity to lead a transformational graduate program within one of the nation’s largest health care systems.

Northwell Health is New York State's largest private employer and one of the nation's largest integrated health care systems, delivering world-class clinical care throughout the New York metropolitan area, pioneering research at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, and educating the next generation of medical professionals.

The Elmezzi Graduate School of Molecular Medicine offers an accelerated three-to-four-year PhD degree program for individuals with an MD (or equivalent) with a strong emphasis on translational research. The program is designed to train exceptional physicians to conduct basic and translational research related to human physiology and disease. The PhD degree requirements focus on students conducting and completing a substantial body of scholarly research under the mentorship of Elmezzi faculty, coupled with a focused core curriculum. The school is tuition-free, and students receive a salary aligned with a medical resident.

Dean Responsibilities

The Dean of the Elmezzi Graduate School of Molecular Medicine will champion the program's mission to train physician-scientists who are equipped to conduct cutting-edge research and translate discoveries into improved patient care. Responsibilities include:

  1. Overall leadership, strategic direction, and academic excellence of the graduate program.
  2. Curriculum development and oversight.
  3. Faculty recruitment, development, and engagement.
  4. Student recruitment and mentorship.
  5. Program administration and expansion.
  6. Budget management.
  7. Fostering collaborations within the Feinstein Institutes, Northwell Health, and external partners.

Professional Experience and Qualifications

  • MD/PhD or MD degree, or equivalent.
  • Significant experience in physician-scientist training/education and research.
  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience in an academic setting.
  • Strong record of research accomplishments and continued extramural funding.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and mentorship skills.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Visionary leadership with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
