Responsibilities

  • Attend after-school events to maintain administrative presence.

  • Facilitate meetings on student behavior and academics with staff and families.
  • Implement policies and procedures to meet mandated requirements.
  • Intervene in student behavior to develop interpersonal skills.
  • Participate in meetings/workshops to gather information for duties.
  • Review at-risk students to provide needed support/interventions.
  • Prepare data on student behavior and discipline for reporting.
  • Present behavioral interventions to faculty and children’s outcomes.
  • Represent the school in community forums to support goals.
  • Support the principal with administrative tasks as needed.

Purpose StatementThe job of Dean of Students is done for the purpose/s of providing assistance to the Principal particularly inthe area of discipline; directing assigned school site programs and services; providing information andserving as a resource to others; serving as liaison between teacher and students; coordinating andsupporting school activities; and addressing issues, situations, and/or problems that arise on campus orwith enrolled students. Functions may vary depending on school site assignment.This job reports to PrincipalEssential FunctionsAttends after-school events as needed (e.g. athletic events, fine arts presentations, etc.) for thepurpose of ensuring an administrative presence.Communicates with parents, virtually and/or in person, regarding their student's academic and/orbehavioral issues for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems, and/or resolvingconflicts to support student's educational performance.Conducts classroom observations giving post-observation feedback depending on site assignment forthe purpose of ensuring the quality of instruction at assigned school site.Coordinates the program of student discipline that focuses on both academics and behavior for thepurpose of ensuring compliance and encouraging positive academic and behavioral performance ofstudents at the school site.Facilitates meetings, processes, etc. (e.g. student behavior, academic issues, etc.) for thepurpose of ensuring communication between school and home regarding student educational performanceand complying with network and state mandates.Implements policies, procedures, and/or processes (e.g. academics, behavior, discipline, etc.) forthe purpose of providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements.Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students for the purpose of assistingstudents in modifying such behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills.Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gatheringinformation required to perform functions.Performs reviews of at-risk students for the purpose of providing needed support/interventions toenhance opportunity for student educational success.Prepares data regarding student behavior and discipline for the purpose of documenting activities,providing written reference, and/or conveying information.Presents information for faculty (e.g. behavioral interventions, disciplinary, etc.) for thepurpose of communicating information, gaining feedback, and ensuring adherence to establishednetwork programs and protocols.Represents the school within community forums for the purpose of maintaining ongoing communitysupport for educational goals, establishing relationships with families and community, andassisting withissues related to school environment.Supports principal for the purpose of providing assistance with administrative functions as requested.Other FunctionsPerforms other related duties asassigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school site.Job Requirements: Minimum QualificationsSkills, Knowledge and AbilitiesSKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skillsin order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required tosatisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: planning and managing projects; usingpertinent software applications; counseling and mentoring students; critical observation; enforcingdiscipline policies; enforcing rules and regulations; investigating problems; and planningagendas/meetings.KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; review and interpret highly technicalinformation, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; andanalyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competenciesrequired to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: laws and regulations relatedto education; knowledge of community resources; and school safety and security practices.ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate,and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work withothers in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but differentprocesses; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with adiversity of individuals and/or groups; work with similar types of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problemsolving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment islimited.
