About the Role

The Dean of Faculty provides strategic leadership for faculty affairs, academic excellence, instructional quality, and faculty development across the University. The Dean fosters an environment that supports effective teaching, continuous professional growth, academic collaboration, and institutional effectiveness while promoting excellence in student learning.

The Dean leads the implementation of faculty-related academic policies, supports academic governance, oversees faculty development initiatives, and works collaboratively with academic leaders to advance the University's educational mission.

The Dean partners closely with the Vice President of Human Resources & Talent Strategy to ensure faculty employment processes appropriately support academic priorities while maintaining a clear distinction between academic leadership responsibilities and employment administration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Education, Higher Education Administration, Organizational Leadership, Business Administration, or a closely related field
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible leadership experience in higher education
  • Significant teaching experience in higher education
  • Experience leading faculty development, academic initiatives, curriculum support, or institutional effectiveness
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with faculty and academic leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with accreditation and institutional assessment
  • Experience leading faculty governance processes
  • Experience supporting instructional innovation and faculty engagement
  • Knowledge of higher education academic administration and shared governance

Key Responsibilities

FACULTY LEADERSHIP & ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

  • Provide strategic leadership for faculty affairs and academic excellence across the University.
  • Promote instructional quality, innovation, and continuous improvement in teaching and learning.

  • Lead faculty development initiatives that enhance instructional effectiveness and professional growth.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT & ACADEMIC SUPPORT

  • Establish and oversee comprehensive faculty development programs, workshops, mentoring initiatives, and professional learning opportunities.
  • Oversee academic onboarding programs that prepare new faculty for successful integration into the University's instructional practices, academic systems, and institutional culture.
  • Promote effective instructional methodologies, assessment practices, and curriculum delivery.
  • Encourage continuous professional growth through coaching, mentoring, and academic leadership.

FACULTY AFFAIRS & GOVERNANCE

  • Lead faculty governance processes and facilitate effective collaboration among faculty committees, academic leadership, and the administration.
  • Provide academic guidance regarding faculty workload planning, teaching assignments, promotion pathways, and academic rank recommendations.
  • Support Academic Leaders throughout faculty recruitment by providing guidance regarding academic qualifications, instructional needs, and faculty selection criteria.
  • Provide recommendations regarding academic appointments, faculty rank, and instructional assignments for consideration through established institutional approval processes.
  • Maintain oversight of faculty academic records related to academic credentials, academic development, faculty participation, and instructional activities.

ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE & INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS

  • Lead processes that evaluate instructional effectiveness, student learning outcomes, and faculty development initiatives.
  • Utilize academic performance data to identify opportunities for instructional improvement and faculty support.
  • Support accreditation activities related to faculty qualifications, instructional quality, and academic effectiveness.
  • Develop reports and recommendations that support institutional planning and continuous improvement.

POLICY LEADERSHIP

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of faculty-related academic policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Promote consistent interpretation and application of academic policies across the University.
  • Collaborate with academic leadership to ensure academic policies remain aligned with institutional priorities and accreditation requirements.

COLLABORATION WITH HUMAN RESOURCES

  • Partner with the Vice President of Human Resources & Talent Strategy to align faculty employment practices with academic priorities while maintaining appropriate administrative responsibilities.
  • Provide academic recommendations regarding faculty staffing needs, instructional assignments, academic qualifications, and faculty development.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources regarding faculty recruitment, onboarding, organizational planning, and workforce initiatives.
  • Refer employment-related matters—including hiring administration, employment contracts, compensation, performance management processes, employee relations, corrective action, investigations, leaves of absence, benefits administration, and employment compliance—to Human Resources, while providing academic input, as appropriate.

TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses as assigned.
  • Model instructional excellence through the application of evidence-based teaching methodologies.
  • Support innovation in teaching, curriculum development, and student engagement.
