Description Summary

The Dean of Arts and Sciences provides academic and administrativeleadership for Morton College’s general education and transferprograms. This role is responsible for ensuring the quality,relevance, and effectiveness of instructional offerings acrossdisciplines such as communication, humanities, social sciences,mathematics, natural sciences, and developmental education. TheDean collaborates closely with department chairs, programdirectors, and faculty to support student learning, maintainacademic standards, and foster innovation. As a senior leaderwithin Academic Affairs, the Dean contributes to college-wideplanning, assessment, and continuous improvement. The role isgrounded in Morton’s institutional values of Compassion, Equity,Accountability, Innovation, and Excellence and emphasizescross-functional collaboration to advance student success.

Duties & Responsibilities
Academic Leadership and Faculty Support
  • Provide leadership and support for academic departments in theArts and Sciences division, including oversight of curriculumdevelopment, program review, and instructional quality.
  • Collaborate with faculty leaders to coordinate courseofferings, manage instructional loads, and ensure effectivescheduling in partnership with the Office of InstitutionalEffectiveness and Academic Planning.
  • Oversee the hiring, evaluation, and professional support offull-time and part-time faculty within the division.
  • Support academic program development and innovation that alignwith institutional goals and student needs.
Assessment and Program Quality
  • Support the implementation of program-level assessment andcontinuous improvement strategies.
  • Ensure timely and meaningful program review processes, incollaboration with Academic Planning.
  • Foster a culture of evidence-informed decision-making inacademic planning and instructional effectiveness.
  • Ensure academic programs align with accreditation, transfer,and institutional compliance standards (e.g., ICCB, IAI, HLC).
Student Success and Equity
  • Promote equitable learning outcomes through data-informedstrategies and inclusive pedagogy.
  • Support student completion, transfer readiness, and engagementin general education pathways.
  • Advance initiatives that strengthen developmental education,co-requisite models, and honors programming.
Collaboration and Institutional Engagement
  • Partner with Teaching and Learning Resources—includingtutoring, testing, instructional technology, and the library—tosupport academic success and faculty development.
  • Work with colleagues across Student Services, InstitutionalEffectiveness, and Workforce Innovations to align instructionalofferings with student goals and community needs.
  • Represent the division in institutional planning, accreditationefforts, and college governance structures, including committeesand strategic initiatives.
  • Represent the division in local and statewide academic groupsor transfer councils, as appropriate.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in an academic discipline within the Arts andSciences. At least five years of teaching experience at the collegelevel. At least three years of academic administrative experience,including faculty supervision, curriculum development, and budgetoversight. Demonstrated ability to lead collaborative initiativesthat improve student learning and program quality. Stronginterpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Commitmentto equity, student success, and Morton College’s institutionalvalues.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral degree in a related discipline or higher educationleadership. Experience with shared governance and facultyleadership structures. Familiarity with ICCB, IAI, and HLCexpectations and processes. Experience working in a unionized orcollective bargaining environment. Bilingual English/Spanishproficiency.
