The Dean of Academic Instruction is responsible for the administration of the College's academic transfer instructional programs, for all curriculum and instruction in the academic transfer division, and for academic support services. The Dean supports the Division’s academic functions designed to facilitate cohesive college-wide services within a blended and online educational environment. This position oversees and manages academic instructional projects designed to enhance the quality of programs and services. The Dean conducts performance management reports and provide collaboration for academic transfer instructional services as directed by the President.

At a minimum, the essential functions of this position shall include:
- Oversees the Associate in Arts and Associate in Science instructional programs and all academic transfer courses offered at the College taught through all instructional delivery methods on all campuses and off-campus instructional sites
- Supervises academic transfer Associate Dean(s), Division Chairs, Instructors, and instructional support staff; assists in orienting new staff and instructors to the College’s rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; and evaluates academic transfer instructors and staff under their supervision
- Coordinates the development of new programs and curricula as required
- Coordinates the development and approval of student-centered class schedules each term
- Monitors all educational programs and services to ensure that they are conducted in accordance with relevant accreditation programs and standards
- Reviews, approves, and documents credentials for all academic transfer faculty
- Oversees hiring processes for all academic transfer faculty
- Coordinates the periodic review of programs and curricula
- Coordinates and approves faculty load sheets and payroll load forms each term
- Researches and stays current with general and instructional technology and ensures that academic transfer faculty have opportunities to master and implement emerging instructional technologies within the parameters of available funds
- Coordinates with the other Instructional Officers to create final exam schedules; to create annual academic calendars; and to develop, implement, and evaluate the Institutional Effectiveness Plan and other instructional-related policies, practices, and procedures
- Coordinates with the Chief Financial Officer or designee on the development and administration of academic transfer and academic support annual budgets and annual equipment purchase plan for approval by the President
- Coordinates strategically with other College departments, including but not limited to the Center for Teaching and Learning, Early College Program, Libraries and Museums, Student Services, Financial Aid, Fiscal Services, Admissions, and Recruiting
- Coordinates annual review of standardization of all departmental syllabi
- Coordinates professional development programs for academic transfer faculty and staff
- Approves all travel and purchasing requests from academic transfer faculty and staff
- Develops, updates, and edits academic transfer program related information for publication in the College’s catalog
- Coordinates and implements Institutional Effectiveness processes and procedures for academic transfer programs
- Assists with planning facility needs and requirements pertaining to instructional programs
- Conducts studies and reports as requested by the Vice President, President, or Alabama Community College System
- Assists in student recruitment and retention of students
- Addresses academic transfer student and/or personnel complaint or grievance issues

Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution
- Five years of current related work experience
- The appropriate teaching credentials and experience to teach courses in one or more academic transfer disciplines taught at the College
- At least three years of higher education administrative leadership experience
- At least three years of supervisory experience in one or more of the essential functions of this position
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to build trust, foster collaborative relationships, and work successfully with diverse faculty, staff, students, and administrators across multiple departments
- Ability to work well with others and under pressure
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three or more years of experience as an Associate Dean or equivalent position
- At least three years of full-time teaching experience in an academic transfer teaching area or field of study at the post-secondary level
- Experience with the Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) accreditation policies, practices, and procedures
