Job summary

Fort Wayne Community Schools is seeking a Special Education Assistant to support teachers and students in both special education and general classrooms. The role involves instructional clerical tasks, student supervision, and daily life activities for students with special needs during the school day.

The position follows the school calendar with shifts typically from morning towards the afternoon, and candidates should be flexible to meet student needs.

Qualifications

• Must have a High school diploma or GED.
• Prefer candidate with previous experience working with students with special needs.
• Must relate well with students staff and parents.
• Must have strong office computer and oral and written communication skills.
• Incumbents must possess knowledge of child guidance principles and practices and basic instructional methods and techniques.
• Must be willing to supervise students in community settings.
• Must participate in training provided by the Special Education Department.
• Highly-qualified candidates may have two years of college, a degree, passed the Para-Pro Assessment, 1,000 hours of school experience, passed evaluations, 48 college credits, or CDA credentials.
