Job summary

The North Carolina School for the Deaf seeks a Middle School Teacher to provide academic instruction in ASL within a residential setting for Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing students. This ten-month role is paid over 12 months and requires a NC Teaching License with eligibility for Deaf Education licensure.

Responsibilities include planning and delivering instruction, preparing IEPs, reporting progress, supervising teaching assistants, and coordinating field trips with a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • NC Teaching License in the appropriate subject area is required.
  • ASL proficiency is required; ASLPI Level 3 or higher preferred.
  • Experience with Deaf/HH students; knowledge of Deaf culture and education methods.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual and small group instruction in academic areas (reading, math, science) as per IEP goals.
  • Prepare and implement daily lesson plans and assess student progress; document performance.
  • Prepare report cards; supervise and instruct teaching assistants; supervise student teachers.
  • Gather and prepare instructional materials; plan field trips; assist with IEPs and related meetings.
  • Participate in school activities, committees, and in-service workshops; collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
