Job summary

Puffer-Sweiven is seeking a qualified software engineer for DCS/PLC configuration and process control support in the Corpus Christi area. You will design, test, and document automation solutions, collaborating with customers, vendors, and internal teams to ensure reliable operations.

Ideal candidates have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science, hands-on experience with SIS, HMI (iFIX), SCADA, and cloud-based environments, and the ability to work independently or on project teams

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or related field, or 2–4 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with DCS systems such as Operator Display, I/O databases, and Control Strategies.
  • Able to work independently and with customers, management, and sales teams.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical and complex automation problems.
  • Proficient with common office software and basic networking concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Configure and program DCS/PLC, including SIS, alarm management, burners, and SCADA.
  • Design, configure, test, debug, and document user applications.
  • Apply programming standards to ensure efficient logic and maintainability.
  • Liaise with software vendors for problem diagnosis and resolutions.
  • Identify innovative automation solutions to improve customer value.
  • Coordinate with plant process and control engineers on optimization and issue investigation.
  • Plan software version upgrades and custom interfaces.

Do you have the skill sets listed below, or a combination thereof? How about the experience, training, or education to take on the following responsibilities?

  • DCS configuration and PLC programming, such as:
    • Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)

  • Participate in designing, configuring, testing, debugging and documenting user applications in various software products
  • Apply generally accepted programming standards and techniques to assure efficient program logic
  • Act as liaison with manufacturers and vendors of software and application products, especially relating to problem diagnosis and resolution
  • Discover inspiring methods that bring great value to the customer by identifying and providing innovative solutions
  • Expertise in implementing automation strategies, optimizing process control, and investigate process control related issues by coordinating with plant process and control engineers
  • Experience with Cloud Based Virtual environments and knowledge of basic network architectures.
  • Plan and execute software version upgrade releases and custom interfaces

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or relevant software/computer related fields, or two to four years related experience and/or training.
  • Related experience includes spreadsheet manipulation or database manipulation and macro development. Additional experience preferred with any DCS systems such as Operator Display implementation, I/O database implementation and Control Strategy implementation.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively alongside Puffer-Sweiven’s customers, management, and sales organization
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and algorithms to practical and complex situations
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form that apply to several abstract and concrete variables
  • Ability to effectively use the following computer applications: Word processing, spreadsheets, Internet software, E-mail, Database software, Networking, PC and mainframe systems.
