Job summary

Perplexity in Washington, DC is seeking a Public Policy Associate to engage Congress, the executive branch, and think tanks. You’ll map stakeholders, carry Perplexity’s positions into rooms that matter, and report back on what policymakers are saying.

This role emphasizes relationship building, event coordination, strong writing, and navigating lobbying rules. Based in DC and in office four days a week, with occasional travel.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional experience, including Capitol Hill time preferred.
• External lobbying experience preferred; Lobbying Disclosure Act experience valued.
• Established Washington network and ability to grow it.
• Event execution: run a 20-person briefing or 150-person reception end to end.
• Strong writing: turn meetings into concise briefing materials.
• Sound judgment: represent a company without a script.
• Genuine curiosity about AI policy and Perplexity's work.
• Comfort with the pace: mornings, days and evenings.
• Based in Washington, DC, in office four days a week with travel

Responsibilities

• Execute our policy communications strategy set by Comms and leadership: create talking points, backgrounders, rapid responses, and feed insights to legal, policy, and product teams.
• Build and maintain relationships with Hill staff, executive branch staff, trade associations, think tanks, and civil society groups.
• Advocate directly: attend meetings, present our positions, and track bills and rulemakings per ethics rules.
• Run our DC event footprint: coordinate Hill briefings, roundtables, product demos, receptions, and dinners.
• Represent Perplexity in coalitions and working groups; monitor conversations and flag important developments.
• Collaborate with think tanks and civil society groups on convenings and launches.
• Prepare leaders for DC engagements: briefing books, meeting prep, and clear post-meeting recaps.
• Support our leaders with timely, credible policy input and strategic messaging.
