Job summary

Virginia Veterinary Specialty & Emergency in Charlottesville, VA is seeking a Daytime ER Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to join our emergency team. This full-time role focuses on advanced ER nursing, collaboration with board-certified specialists, and opportunities for cross-training in surgery and internal medicine.

You will perform critical tasks, triage, client education, and support from 7AM to 7PM across three shifts per week.

Qualifications

• AAS degree in veterinary technology from an accredited program
• Active Virginia Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) license in good standing
• 2+ years emergency or critical care experience

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced nursing in ER: restraint, postoperative care, catheter placement, wound management
• Assist veterinarians in emergency procedures, anesthesia, surgical prep, monitoring, and recovery
• Provide CPR, fluid therapy, oxygen support, and blood transfusions
• Conduct diagnostics: hematology, cytology, urinalysis, microbiology, serology
• Operate diagnostic equipment: ECG, blood pressure monitors, imaging systems
• Triage patients and document condition and treatment
• Educate clients on care, treatments, and follow-up
• Maintain a safe, clean, organized ER; collaborate with team

Are you a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) looking to advance your career in emergency medicine? At Virginia Veterinary Specialty & Emergency, we provide 24/7 advanced care for pets, and we’re seeking a dedicated LVT to join our ER Department. This is your opportunity to work with a team of specialists, grow your clinical skills, and make a difference for pets and their families when they need it most.

• Full-time schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each: 7AM - 7PM
• Dedicated to Emergency
• Opportunities for cross-training in specialty services such as surgery, internal medicine, and more

Here is What Your day May Consist of:

• Perform advanced veterinary nursing, including restraint, postoperative care, catheter placement, wound management, and bandaging
• Assist veterinarians in emergency procedures, anesthesia, surgical prep, monitoring, and recovery care
• Providesupport such as CPR, fluid therapy, oxygen administration, and blood transfusions
• Conduct diagnostic and lab testing: hematology, cytology, urinalysis, microbiology, and serology
• Operate diagnostic equipment: blood pressure monitors, ECG, pulse oximetry, and imaging systems
• Triage patients and accurately document condition and treatment
• Educate clients on care, treatments, and follow-up needs
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized ER environment
• Collaborate with a supportive veterinary team that values communication and teamwork

Here is What You Will Bring to the Position:

Education & Licensure

• Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Veterinary Technology from an accredited program
• Active Virginia Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) license in good standing
• Experience 2+ years in emergency or critical care preferred

Skills & Attributes

• Calm and compassionate under pressure
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Physically able to lift 40+ lbs (with assistance) and remain on feet for extended shifts
• Proficiency in emergency triage, patient care, diagnostic procedures, and client education
