Quality Inspector – Day Shift

Help Ensure Quality From Production Through Final Inspection.

Intermountain Electronics (IE) provides and manufactures custom-engineered Process, Electrical Control, and Power Distribution turnkey solutions for customers across North America. Our equipment supports the Data Center, Industrial, Power/Utility, Oil & Gas, and Mining industries.

The products manufactured by IE range from large-scale, one-of-a-kind custom Power Distribution, Control, and Process systems to standard off-the-shelf electronic and electro-mechanical components.

We are currently adding a full-time Quality Inspector to our Day Shift team at the IEC facility. This position reports directly to the Quality Supervisor.

Position Overview

The Quality Inspector monitors and evaluates products throughout the manufacturing process, including both work in progress and completed products. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate records that satisfy Company and customer documentation requirements.

The position also conducts root cause analysis involving NCRs and customer escapes, assists with implementing required corrective actions, and helps identify opportunities for process improvement. Additional responsibilities, including process development, may be required.

Inspection Throughout the Manufacturing Process
  • Inspect a broad range of IE equipment and products and provide support for electrical reviews. Equipment may include MCC buildings, E-houses, power centers, LACT units, pump stations, rebuilt equipment, and other products.
  • Conduct inspections throughout the production process using visual reviews and measurement tests.
  • Perform final inspections on finished products to verify all required operations have been completed in accordance with IE and customer specifications.
  • Verify that equipment has been correctly calibrated and meets applicable electrical code and design specifications.
  • Perform additional operational inspections involving fabrication, mechanical assembly, and paint when necessary.
Technical & Electrical Quality Review
  • Read and interpret technical assembly prints used in the wiring and installation of electrical components.
  • Review switchgear, electrical switches, and electronic instruments and devices, including programmable process controllers (PLCs), data loggers, relays, breakers, and other electronic instrumentation used in the manufacture and repair of electrical power stations and equipment.
  • Determine whether applicable quality and reliability standards have been achieved.
  • Apply current NEC code requirements at an advanced level and verify compliance throughout each stage of the project build.
  • Provide instruction, explanations, and guidance to team members regarding NEC requirements.
  • Communicate technical information effectively, both verbally and in writing, with assemblers, peers, engineers, supervisors, and suppliers as needed.
Quality Issues, Root Cause & Corrective Action
  • Work with the Manufacturing Manager and team leads to communicate changes involving quality processes and procedures.
  • Assist with collecting process turnbacks and participate in analyzing their root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Lead efforts to determine root causes and corrective actions associated with NCR quality issues.
  • Work closely with the Quality team to identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes.
  • Lead root cause analysis involving company escapes, including quality issues that reach the end user.
  • Support corrective-action efforts resulting from identified quality concerns.
QMS, Documentation & Team Support
  • Partner closely with Manufacturing and Engineering to ensure required documentation is completed.
  • Support the QMS team, engineers, manufacturing supervisors, leads, and employees with workmanship and quality standards as well as manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Train new employees on IE quality processes and inspection procedures.
  • Support the Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 standards, including the Non-Conforming Material Program.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and contribute to company success in a team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrate initiative and remain organized and productive throughout the workday.
  • Provide additional support to Engineering or Operations when needed.
  • Encourage continuous improvement among team members through positive example and motivation.

Required Qualifications, Skills & Physical Demands
Education & Experience
To Qualify For This Position, Candidates Must Have
  • A High School Diploma or GED.
  • Three years of relevant industrial or commercial electrical experience.
  • Two years of quality control and/or inspection experience.
Electrical Knowledge & Capabilities

The Quality Inspector Must Have The Technical Knowledge And Skills Necessary To Evaluate Electrical Equipment And Identify Potential Quality Concerns. Requirements Include:

  • Knowledge of three-phase power systems, motor controls, drives, low-voltage controls, and PLCs.
  • Working knowledge and experience with electrical testing and measurement equipment, including multimeters, Volt-Ohm meters, Hi-Pot testers, and calipers.
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes and requirements, including NEC and MSHA.
  • Ability to follow electrical safety procedures and perform work safely in accordance with requirements such as OSHA and MSHA.
  • Ability to accurately read, understand, and follow electrical prints and diagrams.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent observational skills when reviewing equipment, prints, and diagrams.
  • Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Hours & Availability
