Job summary

Sweeping Corporation of America is seeking a Day Yard Worker for a part-time role in San Jose, CA. The position requires performing general grounds maintenance, mowing, trimming, and upkeep of outdoor areas to support safe, functional properties.

Offering $22–$23 per hour with a first pay increase at 6 months, minimal travel, and a focus on safety, you will join a team that values reliability, attention to detail, and on-time attendance in a first-shift schedule.

Qualifications

  • Experience in grounds maintenance is preferred but not required.
  • Must pass drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect tools and areas before use and wear PPE.
  • Mow, trim, and rake to maintain yards.
  • Operate lawn maintenance equipment safely.
  • Handle yard waste and supplies, clean up.
  • Report issues within 30 minutes or as soon as possible.
  • Maintain open communication with team lead.
  • Follow site policies and documentation processes.
  • Adapt to weather changes and scope of work.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Your daily impact:

As our next Yard Worker, you'llbe at the heart of our mission—delivering essential services that help improve public safetyandenhance environmental quality. In this role, you'll perform general grounds maintenance tasks including planting, mowing, trimming, and upkeep of outdoor areas. You'll help keep properties safe, functional, and visually appealing.

The job responsibilities below outline the core duties and expectations of a position, providing clarity on how the role supports Company goals.   • Safety & Inspection: Inspect tools and work areas before use, and wear appropriate PPE to minimize risk of injury.
  • Execution: Complete yard maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming, and raking with attention to detail and time.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate lawn maintenance equipment like mowers, trimmers, and blowers responsibly and in good working order.
  • Material Handling: Handle yard waste, tools, and supplies efficiently, ensuring proper disposal and cleanup.
  • Reporting: Report any equipment issues, malfunctions, near misses, crashes, or injuries within 30 minutes or as soon as safely possible. Immediately escalation opportunities, work issues, or safety concerns to management.
  • Communication: Maintain open communication with the team lead and raise questions when instructions or expectations are unclear.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Adhere to site policies, equipment guidelines, and task documentation processes.
  • Adaptability & Problem Solving: Respond effectively to changes in weather, terrain, or scope of work to keep tasks on track.
  • Regular & Predictable Attendance: The ability to consistently report to work on time and as scheduled, with minimal unexcused absences. This includes being present and prepared to work throughout assigned shifts, and reliably adhering to start times, breaks, and end times.
Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Education: None - Ability to Read
  • Experience: 1 year driving experience preferred
  • License: Driver’s License
  • Age: Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Compliance: Must maintain an acceptable driving record and successfully pass a motor vehicle record (MVR) check, background check, and drug screening in accordance with Company policy and applicable law.
