Job summary

NLMK USA in Portage, Indiana seeks a Turn Supervisor to oversee all production and maintenance activities for the scheduled turn in the Hot Strip Mill. This role is primarily a day shift but may fill nights and weekends as needed.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years in steel manufacturing with leadership and strong communication skills, and the ability to work with SOPs, JSA, and safety programs while coordinating across teams.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years’ experience in steel manufacturing.
  • Familiar with Hot Strip Mill, Temper Mill, Anneal/Temper or Melt Shop Operations.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills are required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee production and maintenance activities for the scheduled turn.
  • Ensure safety policies and JSA are followed; coordinate safety meetings.
  • Coordinate all turn activities to optimize productivity, quality and cost.
  • Provide daily, weekly and monthly safety contacts and meetings.
  • Communicate information between management and employees; relay information from managers to staff.
  • Ensure SOPs and work instructions are implemented and followed.
  • Oversee Maintenance personnel on off turns and complete turn reports.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Turn Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all activities of production and maintenance for the scheduled turn in the Hot Strip Mill. This position is primarily day turn but will fill in on nights and weekends when needed.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Ensures that assigned crew is trained to perform their duties in compliance to all Health, Safety, and environmental policies and follows program requirements.
  • Ensures that all safety policies and job safety analysis (JSA) are followed.
  • Audits operations to ensure that the safety policies and job safety analysis (JSA) are being followed.
  • Provides daily, weekly and monthly safety contacts and meetings.
  • Ensures that all safety issues are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Provides the communication between Management and employees to ensure important information is communicated to all employees.
  • Ensures that important information from Managers and previous turns is communicated to all employees.
  • Ensures that technical standards, standard operating procedures (SOP), and work instructions that ensure product quality and NPS requirements are implemented and executed.
  • Oversees Maintenance personnel on the off turns.
  • Is responsible for completing all turn reports and communicating key issues with other supervisors.
  • Coordinates all turn activities to optimize productivity, quality and cost in a safe manner.
  • Ensures that the employee issues are heard and addressed.
  • Adheres to and ensures compliance with all Company, Business, Ethics, and other Human Resource Polices
  • Ensures that all requirements of the Basic Labor Agreement are executed and met within the department.
  • Ensures that all team members are properly trained to which they are assigned.
  • Coordinate all operating, maintenance, quality, environmental, and safety activities on shift.
Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Must be familiar with one or more of the following areas of production, Hot Strip Mill, Temper Mill, Anneal/Temper or Melt Shop Operations.
