Job summary

Caritas Family Solutions is seeking a Day Trainer for the Community Day Services department in Illinois. The role focuses on implementing plans, training, and transporting clients to support independence and life skills.

Responsibilities include documenting progress, collaborating with teams, and providing person-centered support in a nonexempt, full-time setting. Starting compensation is $18.35 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Experience Required: Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Experience Preferred: Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in day program or residential settings.
  • Licenses/Certifications Required: DSP certification or ability to obtain.

Title: Day Trainer - Community Day Services

Department: Community Day Services

Status: Nonexempt, Full-Time

Reports To: Program Supervisor

Starting Compensation Pay: $18.35

PURPOSE: The Day Trainer supports adults with developmental disabilities by implementing Individual Service Plans and providing training designed to increase independence, community engagement, life skills, and personal growth. This role combines classroom instruction, documentation, client support, and transportation responsibilities in a mission-driven environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement Individual Service Plan goals.
  • Conduct classes and training activities.
  • Document services, progress notes, and incidents.
  • Assist individuals in developing life, vocational, and social skills.
  • Transport clients safely as assigned.
  • Collaborate with QIDPs and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Maintain program materials and training supplies.
  • Participate in required trainings and professional development.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Basic: Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to read and follow instructions, maintain accurate documentation, and communicate effectively with clients, families, and team members.

Social: Ability to develop positive relationships, demonstrate patience and empathy, work collaboratively with others, and provide person-centered support to individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Problem Solving/Decision-Making: Ability to respond appropriately to changing situations, identify client needs, interpret instructions, prioritize responsibilities, and make sound decisions while supporting client safety and program goals.

Resource Management: Ability to manage training materials, classroom supplies, client records, and program resources while maintaining organization and efficiency. Responsible for tracking attendance, documenting services provided, monitoring client progress, and ensuring records are completed accurately and on time.

Technical: Ability to use service documentation systems, client management databases, goal-tracking tools, and incident reporting platforms. Must be capable of maintaining accurate electronic records, completing required documentation, and supporting program operations through effective use of technology and agency systems.

Proficient Computer Skills In: Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Client Management Systems.

Expert Computer Skills In: N/A

Trauma-Informed: Must demonstrate a commitment to trauma-informed principles, interventions, and practices in all aspects of service delivery. Recognizes the prevalence and impact of trauma on children, families, staff, and communities and applies trauma-informed approaches that promote safety, trust, empowerment, and healing. Creates supportive and respectful environments that minimize the risk of re-traumatization and participates in ongoing professional development to strengthen trauma-informed knowledge and skills.
