Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Brentwood, TN is hiring experienced Emergency Veterinary Technicians.

Pay: $21.00 - $41.00 per hour

Shift: Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday 7a-7p

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our leveling system.

Qualifications: Must have three years of experience as a veterinary technician or be a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT).

We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum.

  • Weekday Night (Mon‑Fri 6P to 8A): $3.00
  • Weekend Day (Sat‑Sun 8A‑6P): $3.00
  • Weekend Night (Sat‑Sun 6P‑8A): $4.50

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will work alongside our team of experienced technicians, assistants, ER doctors, and specialists to provide remarkable care for pets. The Nashville area is one of the most quickly growing and popular areas in the country, making it a great place to live and work.

Responsibilities
  • Perform physical exams; accurately record heart rate, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort.
  • Understand normal vital parameters and alert the doctor when abnormal.
  • Perform phlebotomy.
  • Place peripheral intravenous catheters in the cephalic vein.
  • Read and follow orders written on treatment sheets accurately and timely.
  • Alert the veterinarian if a patient's status changes or monitoring parameters are outside normal ranges.
  • Calculate basic medical math.
  • Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects, and appropriately monitor therapeutic response.
  • Administer medications via appropriate routes and durations.
  • Prepare medications and patient for discharge and communicate discharge instructions to clients.
  • Maintain a solid grasp of common veterinary medical terms and abbreviations and converse with other veterinary professionals in medical terms.
  • Address client concerns and answer them appropriately during visits, updates, or after hospitalization; facilitate incoming calls efficiently.
  • Implement appropriate animal husbandry skills to reduce disease spread, injury, and stress to patients.
  • Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
  • Possess working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
  • Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
