Job summary

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for the Barnstable County Correctional Facility to provide mental health care to incarcerated individuals. Responsibilities include initial and ongoing assessments, treatment planning, and coordination with the medical team.

The role requires licensed NPs, MA Controlled Substance and DEA registrations, CPR certification, and at least two years of NP experience, including in correctional settings.

Qualifications

• Licensure by the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Nursing is required.
• Current Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration is required.
• Current DEA Controlled Substance Registration.
• CPR certification required.
• A minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner is required.
• A minimum of one (1) year of experience in a correctional facility and/or substance abuse/detox preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Performs initial and ongoing mental health assessments and provides treatment.
• Orders treatments, medications and diagnostic testing in accordance with identified needs.
• Provides incarcerated individuals teaching regarding their mental health conditions and management.
• Coordinates care and consults with medical staff and psychiatrists.
• Assists with mental health emergency medical care and transfers.
• Maintains confidentiality and accuracy of medical records.
• Develops, implements, evaluates, and modifies mental health plans of care.
• Communicates with supervising physician and health services administration to ensure proper care.
