Job summary

ProBerco in Reading, PA is hiring a Day Services Direct Support Professional to join our Adult Training team. The role provides supervision and support to individuals served, assisting with daily activities, development of ISPs, and participation in community activities.

The incumbent will maintain safety, dignity, and respect, follow corporate policies, and help participants grow toward independence, while transporting participants as needed and supporting program goals.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; some college preferred in education or related field.
  • Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred; customer service experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a supportive, caring, safe environment by attending to individual needs and supporting growth and independence.
  • Assist in planning and development of ISPs by attending team meetings.
  • Assist program participants with personal hygiene, dressing, eating, and other necessary skills.
  • Assist in ISPs and related activities (social, recreational, educational, developmental).
  • Comply with corporate policy and procedures and Office of Developmental Programs' regulations.
  • Attend to participants' emotional, physical, or medical needs and report concerns.
  • Attend meetings as required and provide transportation for participants.
  • Locate and develop meaningful community activities and serve as ambassador for participants and the corporation.

Position Summary

The Instructor in the Adult Training department is responsible for the supervision and support of the individuals served. The Instructor assists in the implementation of care while attending to and respecting individual needs to support growth and independence. The Instructor is responsible for adhering to corporate policies and procedures as well as state regulations. The instructor provides supervision and support in the program and the community.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or general education development certificate. Some college preferred with background in education or related human services field.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred; customer service experience.
  • Valid PA driver's license with acceptable driving record.
Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide a supportive, caring, safe environment by attending to individual needs, respecting differences, and supporting growth and independence.
  • Provide input into the planning and development of the ISPs by attending team meetings.
  • Assist each program participant with personal hygiene, dressing, eating, and any other necessary skills.
  • Assist in implementation of the ISPs and related activities (social, recreational, educational, developmental).
  • Compliance with corporate policy and procedures and Office of Developmental Programs' regulations.
  • Assist in attending to the program participant's emotional, physical, or medical needs, reporting concerns to responsible personnel.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Provide transportation for program participants.
  • Locate and develop meaningful community activities.
  • Serve as ambassador for program participants and the corporation. Promote the mission at all times.
  • Assist program participants with identification and maintenance of natural supports.
  • Maximize opportunities for choice and decision making.

Physical Requirements And Work Environment
  • Physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the Instructor's job. Reasonable accommodation can be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the described essential functions of the position.
  • Safety precautions are observed in order to reduce incidents of risk factors for typical day program environment that is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. Example: avoiding trips and falls, back care, and observing fire regulations.
  • May need to sit or stand. May be required to walk on a level surface periodically throughout the day. May be required to reach above the shoulder, below the waist or lift documents or materials throughout the work day. Proper lifting techniques are required. The Instructor is required to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. May be required to walk up and down stairs periodically throughout the day. Finger dexterity and close vision ability are required.
  • Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
  • Ability to move in and around personal work space and to and from other areas of the office or building to deliver/retrieve material, attend meetings, or other activities outside of personal work space with reasonable accommodations, if necessary, to perform essential job functions successfully.
  • May be exposed to typical weather conditions according to the season of the year.
