Job summary

Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. is seeking a Datacenter Engineer to support data center infrastructure and tooling for Blizzard’s global operations. You will be a jack-of-all-trades across systems and hardware, building automation and assisting in project implementation.

The role emphasizes on-site and remote collaboration, with 24/7 on-call coverage and a strong focus on safety, documentation, and efficiency in power, cooling, and equipment deployment.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or 4 years’ experience in Systems Engineering/DevOps.
• Experience with HPE, Dell, and Cisco server equipment.
• Experience with Unix/Linux systems.
• Ability to work with global cross functional teams.
• Strong organizational skills and multi-tasking capabilities.
• Strong written and verbal communications skills.

Team Name: IT – Network Operations Job Title: Datacenter Engineer Requisition ID: R028208 Job Description: Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Data Center Engineer to support Blizzard’s data center infrastructure. The ideal candidate is a jack-of-all-trades and adept at both systems and hardware. The applicant will assist in creating/maintaining tools used by the team and be an escalation point for other support teams when needed. This individual will also serve as a key resource on projects, working directly with Project Managers to implement data center technology solutions for Blizzard. This role has been approved for fulltime remote.

Responsibilities

• Site Deployment: Receive hardware, install servers, cable neatly, ensure operational usage
• Operate, monitor, and maintain power, cooling, and life safety systems that are critical to data centers
• Move, Add, Change: Responsible for installing and configuring new IT hardware that lives in the data center or decommissioning equipment
• Inventory: Document and diagram data center floor plan, rack layouts, network ports, and power usage, plus perform data center inventory and asset management using DCIM
• Assist in design, documentation, configuration, integration, and installation of complex network infrastructure
• Systems Administration: OS deployments, LDAP, puppet configurations, create and maintain scripts to automate work or monitor/alert on hardware issues
• Systems Engineering: Assist with tool integration (e.g. JIRA, Slack, or other web API)
• Break Fix on equipment as needed
• Provide 24 X 7 on call support as part of a weekly on-call rotation
• Research and development on groundbreaking new areas in automation and hardware

Requirements

• Bachelor’s in computer science or related field, or 4 years’ experience in Systems Engineering/DevOps related work
• Experience working with HPE, Dell, and Cisco server equipment
• Experience working with Unix/Linux systems
• Ability to work with global cross functional teams
• Ability to act quickly, competently, and confidently
• Ability to use discretion when presented with sensitive information or confidential issues
• Strong organizational skills and multi-tasking capabilities
• Strong written and verbal communications skills
• Strong emphasis for equipment and work safety
• Highly motivated and self-driven, capable of working with little instruction to resolve demanding tasks

Pluses

• Familiar with Data Center operations such as: Generators, PDU’s, UPS’s, CRAC units and Life Safety Systems
• Experience with public and private cloud, including OpenStack, AWS, and Google Cloud Platform
• Experience with network theory and protocols, e.g. TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, VLANs.
• Familiarity with service configuration and deployment tools, such as Ansible, Git/Github, Jenkins, Puppet, or Saltstack
• The ability to read/write code fluently in any of the following: Bash, C/C++, Java, or Python
