Job summary

BlueFlag is hiring Databricks Solutions Engineers to set the standards and patterns for a premier data and AI platform at the Department of Veterans Affairs. The platform is moving on-premises to Azure Commercial, serving thousands of teams building reporting, analytics, and ML.

You will define how the platform is built and governed, create reference implementations, and teach teams to deliver on their own. You’ll join an engineer-first, collaborative team.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in data engineering or analytics with 5+ years on cloud data platforms
• 3+ years hands-on with Databricks and Delta Lake
• Unity Catalog implementation with granular governance
• Strong Spark skills and Structured Streaming
• Experience with Azure networking and services
• Practical Terraform experience and CI/CD
• Auditing, policy as code, and PHI/PII compliance
• Customer-facing experience and clear communication
• Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience

Responsibilities

• Design the Databricks platform foundation in Azure Commercial with Terraform.
• Set Unity Catalog governance and data security policies.
• Define lakehouse standards for medallion data flow and performance.
• Build reference pipelines for batch, streaming, and CDC.
• Establish MLOps patterns with MLflow and model registry.
• Set guardrails for multi-team usage and cost control.
• Create reusable templates and run workshops.
• Collaborate with security, networking, and VA stakeholders.
