Job summary

Steampunk is seeking a seasoned Data Engineer to design enterprise-grade data platforms, data lakes and lakehouses, and pipelines using Databricks, with a focus on governance via Unity Catalog. You will collaborate with clients and teams to migrate and optimize data pipelines across AWS, Azure, or GCP, applying PySpark, SQL, and cloud services while ensuring reliability, performance, and security.

Strong communication and customer service skills are essential as you translate complex data

Qualifications

Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related technical discipline.
2–4 years of industry experience developing production software and solving complex technical problems.
2–4 years of direct experience in Data Engineering including Databricks, Spark, SQL, and cloud services.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and support data lake and lakehouse environments using Databricks with focus on performance and scalability.
Implement and support Databricks Unity Catalog for centralized data governance and access control.
Assess and optimize ETL jobs, workflows, data marts, BI tools, and data dependencies.
Develop and optimize scalable data pipelines using Databricks and PySpark/Python.
Support cloud-based data solutions (AWS, Azure, GCP) and related architectures.
Apply data governance practices within Databricks environments and ensure security and compliance.
Collaborate in an Agile environment and contribute to data engineering initiatives.
