Job summary

Appian seeks a Database Engineer in McLean, VA for our Public Sector Customer Success team. Design, develop, and maintain scalable data architectures to support DoW initiatives, migrate legacy data, and ensure high availability.

You will work with RDMS/NoSQL databases, SQL/MQL/CQL, and cloud platforms (AWS). Collaborate on ETL pipelines, data modeling, and CI/CD to deliver mission-critical government solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related technical field.
• 1+ years of professional data engineering experience.
• Proficient in SQL and NoSQL databases; ability to migrate and optimize schemas.
• Experience with cloud-based data platforms (AWS).
• Familiarity with data modeling, ETL processes, and CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop database architectures and data models to support contracts and DoD requirements.
• Analyze legacy databases for migration risks and compatibility with the cloud.
• Convert legacy procedures and queries to modern languages (PL/SQL/SQL).
• Identify and update hardcoded queries for the new engine.
• Establish ETL workflows to transform legacy data.
• Configure and monitor enterprise database clusters.
• Tune objects and create indices for performance.
• Integrate database objects into CI/CD pipelines.
• Set up version control for database code.
• Develop data-generation scripts for testing.
