Job summary

Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc. in East Palo Alto, California is seeking a Database Engineer II to deliver performance and scalability for large-scale, distributed, cloud-native database services.

You will conduct performance analysis, detect bottlenecks, tune queries, build automated performance tools, and contribute to capacity planning and the performance roadmap.

This full-time role offers a 40-hour week, with a salary range of $143,500 to $194,200 per year, plus benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Two years of experience in PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar OLTP databases.
• Hands-on experience performing query tuning and performance analysis of storage systems.
• Experience with performance evaluation tools: GCOV, Flamegraphs, or perf.
• Experience coding in C, C++, or Python and building a performance automation tool.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform engineering work to deliver performance and scalability for large-scale, distributed, cloud-native database services. Perform performance bottleneck analysis and software optimizations for new features. Work on workload optimizations and capacity planning. Drive resolution of critical customer performance issues. Participate in creating and driving the performance roadmap to deliver cost-effective and scalable database services. Work on multiple technical projects and ensure schedules, milestones, and priorities are compatible with technology and business goals.

PAY & BENEFITS

40 hours / week, 8:00am-5:00pm, Salary Range: $143,500/year to $194,200/year.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field and two years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.

Must have two years of experience in the following skills:

• working on PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) databases;
• hands-on experience performing query tuning and performance analysis of storage systems;
• using at least one of the following performance evaluation tools: GCOV, Flamegraphs, or perf;
• working on large code bases and coding experience in C, C++, or Python and;
• hands-on experience building a performance automation tool.
