Position Summary:

Our partner, a leading provider of comprehensive background and workforce monitoring solutions, is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Platform Database Architect/Engineer. This critical role will spearhead the complete modernization and re-architecture of their data-intensive platforms, ensuring scalability, robust performance, and cost efficiency. As the technical authority for data infrastructure, you will guide strategic data architecture decisions, provide hands-on leadership, and collaborate closely with internal engineering teams and external vendors. You’ll champion the development of internal tools and self-service capabilities, enabling developers to independently deploy, manage, and maintain data infrastructure in a complex, multi-database AWS environment.

Experience and Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
7+ years’ progressive experience in Data Architecture or Data Engineering roles.
5+ years’ hands-on experience designing, implementing, and managing cloud-native data solutions, particularly in AWS.
Prior experience as a Technical Lead, Architect, or Team Leader in a data-centric role.
Demonstrated experience successfully partnering with internal technical teams and managing external vendors.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

Lead Data Modernization: Architect and oversee the re-engineering of the companies data platforms to ensure scalability, high performance, cost-efficiency, and ease of use for internal stakeholders.
Design and Implementation: Drive cloud-native solutions on AWS, leveraging RDS, Redshift, and other relevant services, ensuring robust performance, optimized storage solutions, and controlled costs.
Performance Optimization: Analyze existing infrastructure, evaluate performance metrics, and proactively implement improvements in database and system architecture.
Data Modeling Collaboration: Work directly with engineering teams to understand application-specific needs, gather detailed requirements, and create sophisticated data models that support business objectives.
Self-Service Data Platform: Architect and develop internal tooling and automation frameworks enabling engineers to autonomously deploy, scale, and manage databases required for application development and new feature launches.
Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Serve as the central authority and mentor for data architecture strategies and best practices within the technical organization, facilitating knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving: Lead troubleshooting of performance issues, manage capacity planning, and ensure continuous uptime and reliable availability of data resources.
Vendor Management: Effectively engage and manage external vendor partnerships to supplement internal capacity, ensuring timely and successful project delivery.
Hands-on Technical Leadership: Maintain an active, hands-on role within data architecture and implementation efforts, demonstrating technical proficiency and setting high standards of quality.
