Qualifications

Location: New York, NY - Hybrid; 3 days onsite, 2 days remote

Position Status: Contract through 2/28/2027; very likely to be extended

Pay Rate: $70-$80/hr W2, depending on experience

Position Description:

We are seeking a Senior SQL Server Database Architect & Data Engineer to design, administer, optimize, integrate, and govern enterprise data platforms supporting business applications, analytics, reporting, and digital transformation. This hands-on role combines database architecture, SQL Server administration, data engineering, ETL, data integration, data warehousing, and business intelligence to deliver scalable, secure, highly available data solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design enterprise database architectures and conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
• Establish architecture, governance, and data-management standards.
• Design solutions for scalability, security, high availability, replication, disaster recovery, backup/recovery, and business continuity.
• Lead architecture reviews and technical design sessions.
• Administer and support enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments.
• Monitor database health, performance, capacity, and availability.
• Perform performance tuning, indexing, query optimization, and SQL/T-SQL development.
• Manage backup/recovery, replication, security, access controls, maintenance, upgrades, and capacity planning.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
• Design, develop, and optimize ETL processes and data pipelines using SSIS, SQL/T-SQL, Python, and PowerShell.
• Support data warehouse, data lake, and lakehouse architectures.
• Develop data cleansing, transformation, validation, reconciliation, and integration processes.
• Automate data movement and ensure reliable integration across enterprise applications, databases, analytics, and reporting platforms.
• Support enterprise analytics, business intelligence, Power BI, and reporting initiatives.
• Develop analytics-ready data structures and improve data availability, quality, performance, and usability.
• Apply data governance, metadata management, master data management, data quality, and data lineage standards.
• Implement security, auditing, role-based access controls, and data protection practices.
• Support cybersecurity, regulatory, audit, SOX, and data-retention requirements.
• Collaborate with business, application development, infrastructure, cybersecurity, analytics, and technical teams.
• Provide senior-level guidance across database architecture, administration, and data engineering.
• Lead technical design discussions and maintain technical documentation, standards, and procedures.
• Manage multiple strategic and production priorities.

Required Skills/Education:

• 10+ years of experience in database administration, architecture, design, data engineering, or related disciplines.
• 5+ years supporting enterprise or large-scale environments.
• Deep hands-on expertise with Microsoft SQL Server and advanced SQL/T-SQL, including complex queries, scripting, and stored procedures.
• Strong database architecture and relational data modeling experience.
• Strong SSIS and enterprise ETL development experience.
• Experience with data warehouses, data lakes, and enterprise data integration.
• Hands-on Python and PowerShell experience for scripting, automation, data processing, or operational support.
• Experience with Power BI and enterprise analytics/reporting.
• Strong database performance tuning, including indexing and query optimization.
• Experience with backup/recovery, disaster recovery, security, capacity planning, monitoring, and automation.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, root-cause-analysis, and communication skills.
• Understanding of data governance, data quality, security, access control, and cybersecurity principles.
• High school diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with VBA or shell scripting.
• Experience supporting lakehouse architectures.
• Experience with metadata management, master data management, and data lineage.
• Experience with regulatory, audit, SOX, or data-retention requirements.
• Experience developing database standards, governance frameworks, and technical procedures.
• Experience leading initiatives across application, infrastructure, security, analytics, and business teams.
