Job summary

Nationwide IT Services is seeking a Data Warehouse Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide senior technical leadership in design, development, optimization, and support of enterprise data warehouses.

You will lead large-scale SQL Server environments, dimensional modeling, and analytics solutions using SSIS/SSRS/SSAS, Power BI, and Python/R. On-site work at DEA offices in Merrifield, VA and Arlington, VA with Secret Clearance required.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of total database experience.
  • 12+ years of SQL Server experience within the 15 years.
  • 5+ years of experience with Agile development methodologies.
  • 3+ years with Microsoft tools such as SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, Power BI, and ADO, and with modern data tools.
  • 3+ years of dimensional analysis in Kimball-style EDW with not less than 500 tables and a billion rows.
  • Secret Clearance required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as SME for enterprise data warehouse architecture, design, implementation, and performance optimization.
  • Provide deep technical expertise for large-scale SQL Server environments with multi-terabyte data and billion-row datasets.
  • Design and optimize data warehouse solutions using Kimball-style dimensional modeling.
  • Lead development of fact and dimension structures in large data warehouse environments.
  • Develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines and analytics using Microsoft data tools.
  • Utilize SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, Power BI, and ADO for data integration and reporting.
  • Apply Python, R, and cloud services to enhance data processing and analytics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Agile environments for iterative delivery.
  • Analyze data requirements, troubleshoot complex issues, and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure scalable, maintainable data warehouse solutions aligned with objectives.

Position Summary
The Data Warehouse Subject Matter Expert (SME) provides senior-level technical leadership in the design, development, optimization, and support of enterprise data warehouse environments. This role serves as the primary expert for large-scale SQL Server data warehouse platforms, dimensional modeling, reporting and analytics solutions, and modern data management tools. The SME supports enterprise data initiatives by applying best practices in database architecture, ETL/ELT processes, analytics, and Agile delivery to ensure scalable, high-performing, and reliable data solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the SME for enterprise data warehouse architecture, design, implementation, and performance optimization.
  • Provide deep technical expertise in large-scale SQL Server database environments, including systems with multi-terabyte data volumes and billion-row datasets.
  • Design, support, and optimize enterprise data warehouse solutions using Kimball-style dimensional modeling and dimensional analysis methodologies.
  • Lead and support the development of fact and dimension structures within complex enterprise data warehouse environments consisting of large table counts and high-volume data.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance ETL/ELT pipelines, reporting solutions, analytical models, and dashboard capabilities using Microsoft data tools and modern data management technologies.
  • Utilize tools such as SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), Power BI, and ADO to deliver data integration, reporting, and analytics solutions.
  • Apply modern tools and technologies, including Python, R, and cloud services, to improve data processing, analytics, and data platform capabilities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Agile environments to support iterative development, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement of data warehouse solutions.
  • Analyze data requirements, troubleshoot complex database and warehouse issues, and recommend improvements to architecture, processes, and tools.
  • Ensure that enterprise data warehouse solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with mission and business objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 15+ years of total database experience.
  • 12+ years of SQL Server experience within the overall 15 years of database experience.
  • Experience working with SQL Server databases of at least 5 TB and a billion total rows of data.
  • 5+ years of experience working with Agile development methodologies.
  • 3+ years of experience with Microsoft tools such as SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, Power BI, and ADO , as well as modern data management tools and technologies such as Python, R, and cloud services.
  • 3+ years of experience performing dimensional analysis in a Kimball-style Enterprise Data Warehouse with not less than 500 total tables and a billion rows of data.
  • Secret Clearance required.

Work Location
Work will be performed at DEA offices in Merrifield, VA; DEA Headquarters in Arlington, VA; and other offices deemed appropriate by the Government.
