Job Description
We are seeking an experienced SQL Developer / Tester to support ongoing data, reporting, and investment decision-support initiatives. The IDS team serves as the primary data steward for the Investments Department, ensuring high data integrity, availability, and efficient data lifecycle management.
This role requires strong SQL development, testing, performance tuning, and documentation skills, along with experience supporting ETL processes using SSIS. The selected candidate will work closely with business and technical teams in a hybrid work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide SQL development support, including creation and maintenance of stored procedures and complex queries
- Design, develop, and implement ETL packages using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
- Perform SQL performance tuning by analyzing execution plans and optimizing long-running queries
- Support data manipulation and transformation initiatives, including converting manual Excel-based processes into automated SSIS workflows
- Review and recommend improvements to SQL development processes such as code promotion and peer reviews
- Develop detailed test plans, test cases, and perform thorough testing of reports, workflows, and data processes
- Produce clear and concise technical documentation, including requirements, process flows, and support documentation
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams while also working independently with minimal supervision
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of SQL database development and programming experience
- 3+ years of QA/testing experience
- Hands-on experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
- Strong experience writing technical documentation (requirements, process maps, procedures)
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with automation tools such as Power Automate
- Knowledge of data governance best practices and procedures
- Experience in the investment or financial services industry
- Hybrid role with on-site presence required in Richmond, VA
- Contract position for approximately 6 months with potential for extension
