This newl role sits within the Product Counsel team supporting Data, AI and Technology, and is part of the organization’s broader investment in dedicated product legal coverage for Data & AI strategy, technology, fraud, financial crime and enterprise platform priorities. FIS’s product counsel model is built around embedding legal support with product teams from ideation through launch and beyond, so this counsel will be expected to advise early, move quickly and help the business ship responsible, client-trusted products. This role is particularly important as data commercialization, data governance, AI-enabled functionality and technology product design become central to FIS’s product strategy. The Product Counsel guide identifies AI governance, data usage rights, data product approvals and data usage determinations as emerging core areas of coverage for product counsel. The successful candidate will bring deep legal judgment, technical fluency and commercial pragmatism to help FIS accelerate responsible growth and inspire client trust.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary legal resource for assigned data and technology products, acting as an integrated generalist with sufficient depth across regulatory compliance, commercial transactions, intellectual property, data privacy and technology matters to own legal strategy for those products.
  • Embed with product, data strategy, technology, sales, compliance, privacy, security and other stakeholders from ideation through launch, business-as-usual support and product sunset or migration.
  • Advise product and engineering teams on data flows, delivery models, product architecture, hosting and geography changes, data-access vendors, AI features and other design decisions with legal implications.
  • Support FIS governance for data products and data usage determinations, including routing proposals through appropriate approval processes before commercialization or external sharing.
  • Identify and advise on legal issues involving data governance, data monetization, third-party data, AI governance, model risk expectations, data usage rights, derivative outputs and technology-enabled product development.
  • Partner with the Privacy and Data Protection Office when products process personal data, introduce new data uses, change hosting or geography, or add vendors with access to personal data.
  • Maintain client-facing privacy, security, AI and data positions aligned with FIS governance, approved enterprise positions and contractual commitments.
  • Build legal roadmaps tied to product milestones and help product teams define what “launch-ready” means from a legal standpoint, including required artifacts, approvals and contract readiness.
  • Own and maintain contract templates, solution terms, order language, pricing attachments and contract-referenced product documentation for assigned products, ensuring they are short, consistent, client-friendly and appropriately versioned.
  • Support RFP responses, sales pipeline reviews and deal negotiations where data, technology, security, privacy, AI or product-specific legal issues require subject matter expertise.
  • Identify recurring negotiation themes and develop approved fallback positions, annotated negotiation guidance and training materials for sales, business teams and legal colleagues.
  • Coordinate with compliance, privacy, security, intellectual property, litigation and other specialist teams when product issues require deeper expertise, while remaining accountable for the overall product legal strategy.
  • Advise on disputes involving assigned data or technology products, including claims viability, available remedies, exposure, factual context, change management, third-party dependencies, specifications and evidence preservation.
  • Drive process improvements that make legal and deal support more efficient for the assigned business unit, including intake triage, template release discipline, precedent development and knowledge transfer.
Required Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
  • Minimum of 9 years of relevant legal experience, with significant experience advising on technology, data, SaaS, platform, financial technology, banking technology or enterprise software products.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a product‑facing legal owner, including advising across product development, go‑to‑market, contracting, privacy, security, compliance, intellectual property and dispute‑related issues.
  • Strong technical fluency, including the ability to read architecture diagrams, understand data flows, ask meaningful system design questions and identify legal implications in engineering decisions.
  • Experience advising on data privacy, data protection, AI governance, data usage rights, data commercialization or related technology governance issues.
  • Experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating and maintaining technology product terms, solution terms, order forms, pricing attachments, RFP responses and related client‑facing documentation.
  • Ability to make risk‑calibrated judgment calls in gray areas and provide practical recommendations that allow the business to move forward responsibly.
  • Excellent stakeholder‑management skills and demonstrated ability to build relationships with product, sales, compliance, privacy, security and business leadership teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting financial services, banking, payments, data products, cloud services, APIs, AI‑enabled products or enterprise technology platforms.
  • Familiarity with privacy and data protection frameworks such as GDPR, CCPA, similar state privacy laws and other consumer protection regimes relevant to technology products.
  • Experience with AI governance, model governance, data commercialization, data licensing, data usage committees, third‑party data rights or AI‑related contracting.
  • Experience working with security, vendor risk management, client audit requests, penetration testing requests, subcontractor responsibilities and enterprise security positions.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop product legal roadmaps, negotiation playbooks, template release plans and scalable training materials for legal and business teams.
  • Experience supporting high‑volume, scaled commercial contracting environments where legal must balance speed, consistency, risk mitigation and client trust.
