Job summary

Avalore.ai is seeking a Data & Software Engineer to join a small team and build complex data flows for a custom application. You should have advanced Python, familiarity with Java, and a strong background in production data pipelines, ETL workflows, and data governance.

Key technologies include Apache Iceberg, Airflow, and AWS deployments. The role requires experience with SQL/NoSQL databases, data catalogs, and integrating AI/ML services.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience with data engineering and building production data pipelines.
  • Experience with Apache Spark & PySpark in large-scale environments.
  • Advanced Python skills including Pandas and NumPy.
  • Experience deploying data pipelines with orchestration tools (Airflow, Spark Jobs).
  • Containerization and cloud deployment using AWS.
  • SQL and NoSQL databases, performance tuning and schema design.
  • Experience with data catalogs, data lineage, and geospatial data.
  • Experience with IaC (Terraform or CloudFormation).
  • Familiarity with OpenLineage and Apache Iceberg.
  • Experience with geospatial extensions like PostGIS.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain end-to-end data pipelines and ETL workflows.
  • Resolve data quality issues, performance bottlenecks, and pipeline failures.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and drive platform modernization efforts.
  • Contribute to engineering docs, patterns, and best practices.

Job description

The Data & Software Engineer works with a small team to build complex data flows for a custom application. Successful candidate will have advanced Python programming skills, familiarity with Java, an understanding of data security, privacy, governance and compliance principles, and a demonstrated history of building production data pipelines and ETL workflows at scale.

Key technologies include Apache Iceberg, Airflow, etc.

Candidate must have experience:

  • Building end-to-end data pipelines leveraging Python
  • Using orchestration tools to deploy data pipelines, including configuring and updating Spark Jobs
  • Containerizing and deploying applications in cloud environments like AWS
  • Working with MySQL and PostgreSQL including performance tuning, schema design, and query optimization for complex, analytical workloads
  • Leveraging industry standard tools for code control (Git, IaC control, etc.)
  • Working with data catalogs, tracking data lineage and handling a variety of data formats, including Geospatial
  • Using Bash scripting for automation and data processing tasks
  • Integrating AI/ML services and models
Responsibilities
  • Work with stakeholders to understand data requirements, assess feasibility, and design appropriate solutions with minimal oversight
  • Leverage strong problem-solving and debugging skills for data quality issues, pipeline failures, and performance bottlenecks
  • Leverage a background in large‑scale data migration or platform modernization efforts
  • Contribute to data engineering documentation, best practices, and design patterns
Requirements
