Job description

Join UT Austin on the campus in Austin, TX for a full-time Data Scientist / Statistician role that centers on supporting School of Nursing research. This on-site position offers a competitive starting salary of $70,000 per year, a 40-hour work week, and exempt status. You will contribute to a collaborative environment that values rigorous analysis, mentorship of students, and the production of reports for dissertations, manuscripts, and grant applications. The role is based at the UT Main Campus with opportunities to influence meaningful nursing research through statistical expertise.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop and implement applied statistical analyses for complex data sets that span clinical, biological, behavioral, psychometric and other quantitative domains.
  • Advise on rigorous, reproducible research design and perform sample size and power calculations.
  • Provide guidance on the appropriateness and validity of planned statistical methods, identifying potential methodological challenges and proposing solutions.
  • Prepare oral, written and graphical reports detailing statistical methods and results, collaborating with students and faculty to generate reports for dissertations, manuscripts and grant applications.
Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Data Science or related field with substantial statistics coursework.
  • At least 1 year of collaborative statistical experience, preferably in an academic setting.
  • Proficiency in descriptive and inferential statistics, structural equation modeling, longitudinal analyses, clinical trial data analyses, and preferably machine learning.
  • Expertise with SPSS or similar software; preferably also with R, MATLAB and/or Python.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
