Job summary

Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California seeks a Data Scientist IV to tackle fundamental AI and operations research problems for spacecraft autonomy, mission operations automation, and onboard real-time decisions.

You will develop planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and constraint-based systems for autonomous spacecraft and terrestrial support, contributing to missions such as ECOSTRESS, OCO-3, EMIT, NISAR, and M2020.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 9 years of related work experience
• Master's degree with a minimum of 7 years of related work experience
• PhD with a minimum of 5 years of related work experience
• Broad knowledge in software development, artificial intelligence, operations research, and resource allocation mechanisms
• Experience in programming languages such as Rust, C++, C, Python, and Java

Responsibilities

• Develop planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and execution algorithms for autonomous systems that interpret complex state, resource, constraint, and event data to take actions to achieve mission goals
• Develop and use search-based, constraint-based, satisfaction and optimization systems to solve large scale planning and resource allocation problems
• Develop software to represent and reason about complex geometric and operations constraints relevant to observation planning
• Support broader team efforts in automation and resource allocation areas
