Job summary

Tempus is seeking a highly motivated RWE Data Scientist II to lead observational studies and derive insights from complex real-world oncology data. You will apply time-to-event methods, survival analysis, and cutting-edge AI tools within a fast-paced RWE framework.

You will collaborate with pharmaceutical partners, contribute to methodological advancements, and help scale analysis pipelines while communicating results to diverse stakeholders across the organization.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, data science or public health-related field.
• 2+ years of relevant work experience if Master’s degree; additional doctoral experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Partner with pharma collaborators to execute RWE research plans using tempus platform.
• Lead derivation of complex real-world endpoints from clinical data.
• Contribute to methodology and platform improvements for real-world studies.
• Incorporate AI/LLM-based workflows to accelerate data analysis and coding tasks.
• Interpret results and communicate findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Collaborate across product, oncology, and data science teams to improve data quality and tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Pharma Collaboration & Strategy: Partner with pharmaceutical collaborators independently execute robust RWE research plans leverage tempus multimodal platform address key questions trial design outcomes research.
• Real World Data Expertise: Lead derivation complex real-world endpoints using extensive coding demonstrating deep comprehension tempus clinical molecular data structures complexity also serving expert methodological nuances limitations real-world data.
• Methodology & Platform Contribution: Stay up-to-date methodological advancements real-world studies (e.g causal inference survival analysis) oncology guidelines (NCCN ongoing clinical trials) contribute reusable code internal packages best practices applied across multiple collaborations.
• AI & LLM Innovation: Incorporate LLMs agentic workflows other AI tools into day-to-day workflows accelerate code development discovery documentation review insight generation.
• Scientific Interpretation & Communication: Interpret results RWE analyses draw appropriate inferences based study design statistical methods evaluating study limitations communicate complex methods results clearly technical non-technical stakeholders prepare present internal reports external-facing deliverables manuscripts conference materials.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate internal product oncology clinical abstraction real-world data science teams continually enhance tempus data quality products analytical best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Education epidemiology biostatistics data science public health related field level either:
  • PhD
  • Master’s degree 2+ years additional work experience
• Technical and Statistical Proficiency
  • Proficiency observational real-world healthcare data analytical experience time-to-event methodologies survival analysis.
  • Proven expertise executing RWD analytical studies.
  • Proficient using R SQL statistical tools packages.
  • Proficiency applying machine learning LLM-based coding assistants (Claude Code Copilot Cursor) agentic frameworks support data analysis code review scientific documentation workflows.
  • Adherence good software engineering practices version control modular code documentation.
• Communication & Client Focus: Demonstrated experience interfacing clients showcasing adeptness presenting tailoring messaging variety stakeholders.
• Soft Skills: Excellent written verbal communication skills strong project management skills Ability thrive fast-pace dynamic environment working multi-disciplinary scientists complex problems.

Preferred Skillsets

• Experience working Pharma drug development.
• Experience clinical trial design particularly Phase II-III clinical development space.
• Analytical proficiency claims EHR registry data.
