Job description
Overview

Torchlight is looking for a strong statistical machine learning practitioner to design and productionize probabilistic models that infer affiliation from patterns and behavioral signals. You will build the statistical core behind services that deliver clear probability outputs and help evolve raw behavioral data into actionable intelligence products. This role has high ownership and a clear growth path: within 12–24 months, you will transition into Data Scientist Lead, heading all data science projects on the team. This is a 100% remote role.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and productionize statistical machine learning models for probabilistic country attribution based on browsing patterns and behavioral signals
  • Design and refine predictive models and statistical algorithms to improve accuracy and reliability of behavioral calculations
  • Work with petabyte-scale datasets to extract, clean, and analyze large volumes of behavioral data
  • Build scalable data pipelines and modeling workflows using Python and SQL
  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to integrate models into production services
  • Create clear visualizations and reports to communicate model performance and insights
  • Own end-to-end algorithm development and model lifecycle management
  • Mentor junior team members as the role evolves into Data Scientist Lead
Qualifications Required
  • Ability to obtain DOD Secret Clearance
  • 4–6 years of hands-on experience in statistical machine learning and predictive modeling
  • Strong statistical background with experience in probabilistic modeling
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL for data analysis and modeling
  • Experience working with big data at scale (petabyte-scale datasets is a plus)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or another STEM field (required)
  • Demonstrated experience in algorithm development and productionizing ML models
  • Self-starter with high ownership and ability to drive projects independently
Qualifications Desired
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (strongly preferred)
  • Prior experience with geospatial data or geospatial analytics
  • Experience working in DoD or intelligence community environments
  • Familiarity with Looker, Tableau, or similar BI/visualization tools
  • Experience building services that generate probabilistic outputs from behavioral data
