Job summary

Steampunk, Inc. is seeking a seasoned Data Scientist to join a team of Data Architects and Developers. You will develop ML/AI solutions, perform EDA, and translate data insights into actionable recommendations for stakeholders.

The role emphasizes collaboration with Data Engineers, AI Devs, and MLOps to deploy models in production. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential, with a focus on reproducibility and auditability of experiments.

Qualifications

  • Public trust with the US government required.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field.
  • 5+ years of ML/AI solution development.
  • 3+ years in data modeling and data solution development.
  • Experience modeling on structured and unstructured data.
  • Proficient in Python and SQL.
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks.
  • Knowledge of data collection methods and tooling.
  • Familiarity with Neo4j and data visualization.

Responsibilities

  • Perform exploratory data analysis to uncover trends and data quality issues.
  • Develop ML models using scikit-learn, XGBoost, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
  • Engineer features and prepare datasets to improve accuracy.
  • Evaluate models with appropriate metrics and document findings.
  • Collaborate with data engineers to enhance data pipelines for model readiness.
  • Work with AI Devs and MLOps engineers to deploy models to production.
  • Create visualizations and executive summaries to communicate insights.
  • Translate user needs into modeling requirements and iterate outputs.

Job description

We are looking for seasoned Data Scientist to work with our existing team of Data Architects and Developers to develop strategies, create ML/AI solutions, and deliver results. We are looking for a more than just a “Data Scientist”, but a technologist with excellent communication and customer service skills and a passion for data and problem solving.

Contributions
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) to uncover trends, identify data quality issues, and determine modeling opportunities.
  • Develop machine learning models using frameworks such as scikit-learn, XGBoost , PyTorch , TensorFlow, or similar libraries.
  • Perform feature engineering, dataset preparation, and model optimization to improve predictive accuracy and operational performance.
  • Evaluate models using appropriate statistical methods and performance metrics, documenting findings and informing iterative improvements.
  • Work with Data Engineers to understand and enhance data pipelines, ensuring model-ready datasets are accurate , complete, and consistent.
  • Collaborate with AI Developers and LLMOps / MLOps Engineers to integrate ML models into production environments or decision-support applications.
  • Build visualizations, dashboards, data stories, and executive-friendly summaries to communicate insights clearly to stakeholders.
  • Support human-centered design processes by translating user needs into modeling requirements and refining model outputs based on feedback.
  • Contribute to reproducibility and auditability by maintaining well-organized code, notebooks, documentation, and experiment histories .
  • Stay current with modern data science methodologies, ML techniques, data processing tools, and cloud-enabled analytics workflows.
  • You will contribute to the growth of our AI & Data Exploitation Practice!
Qualifications
  • Ability to hold a position of public trust with the US government
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Analytics, Engineering, Economics, or a related field
  • 5+ years industry experience developing ML/AI solutions and a passion for solving complex problems
  • 3+ years direct experience in Data Modeling and Data Solution Development
  • Experience modeling on structured and unstructured data sets
  • Experience with exploratory data analysis
  • Experience in feature engineering
  • Experience in data visualization
  • Experience with Python and SQL
  • Experience with Deep Learning methodology and state of the art libraries
  • Knowledge of data collection methods, capabilities, and tasking process
  • Knowledge of Neo4j
  • Knowledge of criminal justice, grants, research arenas
  • Ability to leverage multiple data management tools to organize relevant information and make decisions
About Steampunk

Steampunk relies on several factors to determine salary, including but not limited to geographic location, contractual requirements, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience. The projected compensation range for this position is $140,000 to $160,000. The estimate displayed represents a typical annual salary range for this position.
