Job summary

Gilbane is seeking a Data Scientist to join its centralized Data Science Team. The role focuses on translating business questions into advanced analytic solutions using statistics and machine learning, and presenting findings to business leaders with minimal supervision.

The candidate will work with SQL, R, Python, Excel and MicroStrategy to perform data mining, cleaning, modeling, and visualization. Prior analytics consulting experience and interaction with Executives are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in a quantitative field or related experience.
  • 5+ years practical experience with data processing, programming and analytics.
  • 3+ years practical experience building statistical or ML models and communicating results to business leaders.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience allowed.

Responsibilities

  • Translate business questions into end-to-end analytic solutions and present findings to business leaders.
  • Apply statistics, research methodology, and ML to solve analytics problems.
  • Interact with non-technical stakeholders to deliver analyses and deliverables.
  • Execute data science initiatives using inferential or predictive models.
  • Coordinate with business partners for needs analysis, data collection, training and support.
  • Leverage SQL, R, Python, Excel, and MicroStrategy for data mining, cleaning, joining and modeling.
  • Prepare and deliver analyses and visualizations tailored to customer needs.
  • Learn and apply new data science techniques to solve evolving business problems.
  • Experience with analytics consulting and presenting to Executives (preferred).

Job description

Overview

The Data Scientist is part of the centralized Data Science Team for Gilbane, which is responsible for data analysis, AI and ML use case development.

Responsibilities
  • Answer business questions fully “end to end” by translating business questions into ones answered with advanced analytic techniques (statistics, machine learning etc.); create and present documentation of findings back to business leaders with minimal supervision from Analytics Team.
  • Deep understanding of statistics, scientific research methodology, predictive models, and machine learning. Able to select and implement appropriate approach to various analytics problems.
  • Regularly interact with non technical stakeholders to deliver analyses and answer questions on deliverables.
  • Execute on various aspects of the data science strategy using inferential or predictive models.
  • Cooridinate with Business partners in a consultant capacity, undertaking needs analysis, data collection, prioritization, training and support.
  • Coordinate with technology partners on data mining and collection utilizing SQL, R, Python, Excel, Microstrategy, and other tools for analysis and presentation. Data cleaning, joining, restructuring, model development, process automation etc.
  • Preparation and delivery of analysis and data visualizations that meet the needs of the customers as defined in the needs analysis.
  • Desire to learn and apply new data science techniques in the service of solving business problems regularly increasing in scope and complexity.
  • Experience with analytics consulting, delivering analytics to Executives / C-Suite stakeholders, data pipeline developement, process automation, model deployment etc. desired.
Experience/Education
Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Statistics, Applied Math, Industrial or Research Psychology, Biostatistics, Computer Science/Information Systems or related field
  • 5 + years practical experenience with data processing, programming and analytics
  • 3+ years practical experience building statistical or machine learning models and communicating results to business leaders.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Business acumen and business problem solving skills
  • Extensive background in data mining and statistical analysis
  • Extensive experience with statistical software such as SAS, R, Python, SPSS, or other programs
  • Strategic thinking skills – seeing the big picture, clarifying strategic objectives, identifying relations, patterns and trends, thinking creatively, analyzing information, and prioritizing actions
  • Ability to understand various data structures and produce data visualizations
  • Excellent pattern recognition and predictive modeling skils

Salary to be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience of the applicant, as well as the internal equity and alignment with the team.

The pay ranges from $120,000.00-$160,000.00 plus benefits and retirement program.
