At Boom, small, embedded teams build outsized impact. You’ll join the crew connecting sensors, streaming telemetry, and turning raw data into mission critical analyses powering the Symphony engine program.

As a Data Scientist at Boom, you will be working with the team developing tools and methods that power data acquisition for Boom's engine and aircraft development program. You’ll dive into real-time data visualization, data wrangling, post-test data analysis and even get hands on with hardware. This is a unique opportunity to blend data science with real-world aerospace engineering—building systems that bring supersonic flight closer to reality.

Role Overview
  • Embed directly with test engineers to develop purpose built software tools to streamline data collection and analyses
  • Develop and deploy data pipelines and ETL workflows
  • Support real time data collection and visualization for test events
  • Employ statistical methods and quantitative reasoning to unlock relationships between data and systems
The Ideal Candidate
  • Strong background in numerical computing or statistics
  • Familiarity with high density data storage formats such as parquet, HDF5 and netCDF
  • Background in data classification or clustering
  • You see complex systems as puzzles waiting to be solved and thrive in environments where innovation meets precision
  • Prior internship or hands‑on project experience in aerospace, defense, or related high‑tech industries
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic and ambition, complemented by effective collaboration skills in a team setting
  • Excels in a high‑energy, independent, and challenging work environment
What Will Set You Apart
  • Experience with systems programming languages, particularly Rust or Go
  • Past experience working with data extracted from REST endpoints, or other web based data access technologies
  • Collaborative track record in a diverse technical domains – from aerospace, biological science, engineering, or medicine, you’ve teamed up with experts to get the answers to deep technical questions

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (graduating in Spring 2026)
Compensation

The Base Salary Range for this position is $73,000 - $92,000 per year. Actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Boom’s total rewards package for employees. Other rewards may include long term incentives/equity, a flexible PTO policy, and many other progressive benefits.

Start Date

This position is expected to start in early summer 2026 (May or June) to align with typical graduation timelines.
