Job summary

Guidehouse is seeking a Data Scientist to provide analytical and technical support for data science activities on-site at NIH campuses in Bethesda, MD or Baltimore, MD. Responsibilities include data acquisition, cleaning, transformation, integration, statistical analysis, visualization, and machine learning model development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in data science, analytics, or research support.
  • Experience using Python and/or R to acquire, clean, transform, analyze, and visualize data; support statistical analyses and ML models; develop reproducible workflows.
  • Familiarity with NLP, Generative AI, LLMs, time series analysis, or other advanced data science techniques.
  • Strong skills in data analysis, data presentation, and documentation.
  • Experience writing SOPs and contributing to technical or research documentation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD public trust; active public trust preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, clean, integrate, and validate data from diverse sources.
  • Work with large and complex data sets.
  • Support reproducible analytical pipelines and model testing.
  • Develop dashboards, reports, and decision-support products.
  • Create reproducible data pipelines, workflows, and models.
  • Conduct exploratory, descriptive, predictive, and inferential analyses.
  • Apply statistical and ML methods to NIH research objectives.
  • Produce visualizations and presentations for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with researchers, data engineers, program managers, and IT professionals.
  • Support data governance, privacy, and responsible use of sensitive information.
  • Contribute to data standards, metadata, and reproducible research practices.
  • Monitor analytics products for accuracy and relevance.
  • Stay updated with new data science methods and tools.

What You Will Do:

We are searching for a Data Scientists to provide analytical and technical support for data science activities, including data acquisition, cleaning, transformation, integration, statistical analysis, visualization, and machine learning model development. These full time, on-site positions are based on the NIH campus in Bethesda, MD or Baltimore, MD.

  • Collect, clean, integrate, and validate data from diverse sources, including research, clinical, operational, and public health systems.
  • Work with different data formats and standards with data sets that may be large and complex.
  • Support implementation of reproducible analytical pipelines, code development, model testing and validation, documentation, and quality assurance.
  • Assist in developing dashboards, reports, and decision-support products.
  • Develop and maintain reproducible data pipelines, analytical workflows, and statistical models.
  • Conduct exploratory, descriptive, predictive, and inferential analyses.
  • Apply appropriate statistical and machine learning methods to support NIH research and program objectives.
  • Create dashboards, visualizations, reports, and presentations for technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with subject-matter experts, researchers, data engineers, program managers, and IT professionals.
  • Support data governance, quality assurance, documentation, privacy, security, and responsible use of sensitive information.
  • Contribute to the design of data standards, metadata, documentation, and reproducible research practices.
  • Monitor analytical products and models for accuracy, performance, bias, and continued relevance.
  • Stay current with emerging methods, tools, and best practices in data science, biomedical informatics, and public health analytics.
What You Will Need:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of ONE (1) year of experience in data science, analytics, or research support.
  • Experience using Python and/or R to acquire, clean, transform, analyze, and visualize data; support statistical analyses and machine learning models; and develop reproducible analytical workflows.
  • Familiarity with NLP, Generative AI, LLMs, time series analysis, or other advanced data science techniques.
  • Strong skills in data analysis, data presentation, and documentation.
  • Experience writing SOPs and contributing to technical or research documentation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD “public trust”; candidates must receive approved adjudication prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an active public trust or suitability are preferred.
What Would Be Nice To Have:
  • Background in computational simulation modeling or advanced analytical methods
  • Demonstrated contribution to scientific manuscripts, abstracts, or publications
  • Experience working for NIH or HHS Agency.
  • Familiarity with research operations activities, including documentation and supply coordination
  • Hands‑on use of cloud environments such as AWS and/or Azure for data or model development
  • Working knowledge of modern machine learning ecosystems, including PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, and Generative AI tooling
  • Exposure to API‑driven workflows, including OpenAI integrations
  • Proficiency in additional analytical or technical environments such as MATLAB

The annual salary range for this position is $65,000.00-$108,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
