Job summary

Xometry is seeking a Data Science Intern (Master’s/PhD) to join our Lexington, KY or North Bethesda, MD offices for a summer program. You will develop models, analyze large datasets, and work with cross-functional teams to drive data-driven decisions.

Ideal candidates are pursuing advanced degrees in Data Science, Statistics, or ML, with strong Python/R skills and experience in ML, data mining, and visualization. Fully on-site, 40 hours/week, June 9–August 15, 2025.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in a quantitative field.
  • Strong foundation in statistical modeling and machine learning.
  • Proficiency in Python or R and data visualization.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and big data tools is a plus.
  • Willingness to work full-time during the 2025 summer internship.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement advanced statistical models and ML algorithms.
  • Conduct in-depth data analysis on manufacturing, customers, and markets.
  • Design and run experiments to evaluate data-driven strategies.
  • Collaborate with engineers, PMs, and stakeholders to translate needs into solutions.
  • Contribute to data pipelines and data science infrastructure.
  • Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop and implement advanced statistical models and machine learning algorithms for tasks such as demand forecasting, predictive maintenance, or supply chain optimization.
  • Conduct in‑depth data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights from large datasets related to manufacturing operations, customer behavior, and market dynamics.
  • Design and execute experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of different data‑driven strategies.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into impactful data science solutions.
  • Contribute to the development of data pipelines and infrastructure for data science applications.
  • Communicate complex technical findings clearly and effectively to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Potentially contribute to research and publications related to your work.
What We’re Looking For
  • Academic Excellence: Currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program at an accredited college or university, graduating in December2025 or May2026, with a strong academic record.
  • Ideal background: pursuing a Master’s or PhD degree in Data Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, or a related quantitative field.
  • Technical Skills: strong foundation in statistical modeling, machine learning, and data mining techniques.
  • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and data visualization tools.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) is highly desirable.
  • Research Experience (PhD candidates): experience conducting independent research and contributing to publications is a plus.
  • Strong Work Ethic: ability to work full‑time (40 hours/week) during the internship period (June9–August15,2025).
  • Excellent Communication Skills: strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Problem‑Solving Skills: a strong analytical mindset and a passion for problem‑solving.
  • Legal Authorization: ability to provide proof of legal right to work in the United States.
  • Location Requirement: ability to commute to our Lexington, KY or North Bethesda, MD office to work onsite for at least 3 days a week.
  • Provide an unofficial transcript.
