Job summary

APV is seeking a Data Programmer/Analytical Support at an entry level to assist with data preparation, quality control, testing, and routine analytics for FDA CDER's Office of Computational Science. This remote role targets early-career professionals who can execute well-defined tasks under supervision.

You will work with R, Python, SAS, and SQL to transform datasets, generate outputs, and maintain documentation while learning FDA tools and processes through structured onboarding and mentoring.

Qualifications

• 0-2 years of professional experience; internships, academic projects, or co-op may satisfy the experience requirement.
• Basic programming experience in at least one language such as Python, R, SAS, SQL, Java, or similar.
• Ability to work with structured datasets and perform basic data transformations.
• Understanding of basic software testing, data-quality, or analytical concepts.
• Ability to follow detailed technical specifications and established procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively and accept technical direction from senior team members.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a High-Risk Public Trust or equivalent federal client access.
• Position requires the current ability to obtain and maintain required access without interruption in alignment with long-term program needs.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

• Write, execute, and maintain basic programs and scripts using R, Python, SAS, SQL, or similar languages.
• Prepare, transform, organize, and perform basic validation of structured datasets.
• Execute established analytical workflows using approved specifications, templates, scripts, and procedures.
• Generate recurring tables, listings, reports, visualizations, and other analytical outputs.
• Perform first-level quality control of datasets, programs, and outputs.
• Compare expected and actual results and document discrepancies.
• Execute regression tests and predefined test cases for analytical tools and workflows.
• Troubleshoot routine programming errors and escalate more complex issues to senior staff.
• Support development and maintenance of reusable scripts, templates, functions, and automation components.
• Assist senior staff with data preparation and routine processing supporting clinical, SPAS, and nonclinical analyses.
• Maintain documentation of datasets, programs, processing steps, testing results, versions, and final outputs.
• Organize analytical artifacts within approved repositories and configuration-management processes.
• Support basic visualization and dashboard development where appropriate.
• Assist with user acceptance testing, tool testing, and validation activities.
• Learn FDA-specific tools, data formats, and analytical processes through structured onboarding and mentoring.
