Job description

Data Products & Business Intelligence Lead - Wallet, Payments & Commerce

Austin, Texas, United States Machine Learning and AI

Design and build the next generation of analytical data products for Apple's Wallet, Payments & Commerce - from instrumentation specs to last-mile datasets and interactive Visualization. Serves as a hands‑on Data Product & BI Lead, driving end‑to‑end delivery of scalable, privacy‑first analytics platforms that power trusted insights across the organization. Apple is where individual imaginations gather together, committing to the values that lead to great work. Every new product we build, service we create, or Apple store experience we deliver is the result of us making each other’s ideas stronger. That happens because every one of us shares a belief that we can make something wonderful and share it with the world, changing lives for the better. It’s the diversity of our people and their thinking that inspires the innovation that runs through everything we do. When we bring everybody in, we can do the best work of our lives. Here, you’ll do more than join something - you’ll add something.

Description

Our culture is about getting things done iteratively and rapidly, with open feedback and debate along the way; we believe analytics is a team sport, but we strive for independent decision‑making and taking smart risks. Our team collaborates deeply with partners across product, design, engineering and business teams: our mission is to drive innovation by providing the business and data scientist partners best‑in‑class systems and tools to make decisions that improve the customer experience. This will include leveraging large and complex data sources, helping derive actionable insights, delivering dynamic and intuitive decision tools, and bringing our data to life via interactive self‑serve decision tooling with an eye to meet high standards of trust, accuracy, legal and privacy compliance.

The ideal candidate is a self‑motivated team player, skilled in a broad set of data product tools and techniques with a strong sense of Apple design philosophy. The candidate will have the ability to adapt and learn quickly, provide results with limited direction, and choose the best possible path forward at all times.

This is a rare opportunity to define the analytics foundation for one of Apple’s most strategically important business areas - Wallet, Payments & Commerce. You won’t be maintaining the status quo; you’ll be building the future - from metrics architecture to AI‑driven decision intelligence - at a scale and quality standard that only Apple demands.

Responsibilities
  • Define data instrumentation specs, user journeys, and interaction flows to systematically collect behavioral, transactional, and operational data - enabling robust analytics and insightful reporting
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable analytical last‑mile datasets and data products
  • Design and build a solid metrics layer to drive trustworthy insights and AI‑driven inferences
  • Establish data quality frameworks (e.g., anomaly detection) to ensure accuracy and consistency across all data products
  • Develop data visualizations leveraging AI and modern tools, as appropriate
  • Collaborate closely with a diverse set of partners across product, engineering, design, and business to gather requirements, prioritize use cases, and ensure high‑quality data product delivery.
  • Lead discovery workshops with domain experts and synthesize requirements into wireframes, mockups, and development specifications
  • This role is a senior IC position with team influence , you are expected to actively mentor and up‑level junior engineers and team members working alongside you.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience designing, developing, and deploying next‑generation data and AI‑powered analytical products.
  • 3+ years as a senior IC leading the development of data products, AI‑enabled analytics, and visualizations across multiple lines of business.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, Scala, Python with hands‑on experience in data pipeline tools (e.g., Apache Spark, Kafka, Airflow), CI/CD practices, and version control.
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing, dimensional data modeling, semantic/metrics layers, and metric standardization.
  • Experience applying Generative AI/LLMs and agentic AI patterns to analytics use cases such as insight generation, natural‑language data exploration, and workflow automation.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence without authority across engineering and business teams
  • Excellent Executive communication skills with both technical and non‑technical audiences
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with digital payments or fintech data - transaction metrics, funnel analytics, financial KPIs
  • Familiarity with AI‑driven analytics / conversational BI
  • Knowledge of data governance, data cataloging, and metadata management
  • Experience working closely with data engineering and platform teams to align on data models, and infrastructure/platform requirements
  • Proven record in leading junior engineers to build metrics or BI foundation
