The Data Product Manager / Data Strategy Lead is responsible for defining and driving the data strategy for Payments and Transaction Banking domains within a large, regulated financial institution. Acting as the strategic owner for domain data capabilities, the role bridges business priorities, regulatory needs and technology delivery to enable scalable, high-quality and compliant data products. The role operates horizontally across delivery teams, ensuring consistent data design patterns, modernization outcomes and measurable business value from data investments.

Key Responsibilities
1. Domain Data Strategy & Roadmap
  • Define and maintain the strategic vision for Payments domain data, addressing legacy challenges, simplification and modernization.
  • Develop and evolve domain-level roadmaps aligned to enterprise architecture, regulatory priorities and business outcomes.
  • Balance long-term data strategy with near-term delivery commitments across multiple initiatives.
  • Lead data-focused discovery during portfolio intake to identify opportunities for standardization, reuse, data quality improvement and modernization.
  • Influence scope and design decisions to ensure alignment with enterprise data principles and target-state architecture.
  • Identify cross-initiative synergies to reduce duplication and rework across Payments platforms and data flows.
  • Champion data-as-a-product principles across Payments domains, including canonical data models, shared data contracts and reusable APIs.
  • Co‑own standardized data design patterns and ensure consistent adoption across delivery teams.
  • Embed interoperability and reusability into backlog prioritization and delivery plans.
4. Governance, Controls & Regulatory Alignment
  • Ensure data strategy and delivery align with governance frameworks, control requirements and audit expectations.
  • Drive traceability from policy and regulatory requirements through design and implementation.
  • Incorporate learnings from audits, production incidents and retrospectives into continuous strategy refinement.
5. Delivery Oversight & Outcome Tracking
  • Track delivery outcomes against defined strategic objectives using clear, business‑relevant metrics.
  • Identify misalignments between strategy and execution; escape risks and propose corrective actions.
  • Participate in planning and inspect‑and‑adapt forums to ensure predictable and disciplined delivery.
6. Stakeholder Engagement & Voice of Customer
  • Partner with business, operations, technology and regulatory stakeholders to capture real‑world needs and priorities.
  • Translate Payments use cases into clear data requirements that drive measurable business and operational value.
  • Communicate effectively with senior stakeholders through structured, outcome‑oriented narratives.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field
Required Skills & Experience
  • Typically 10+ years in data, architecture or product roles, including significant experience within Payments, Treasury or Transaction Banking.
  • Payments Domain Expertise: Strong understanding of Payments and Transaction Banking, including payment rails (e.g., real‑time payments, ACH, SWIFT), clearing and settlement, cross‑border flows, correspondent banking and treasury/payments operations.
  • Data Strategy & Architecture: Proven experience defining domain‑level data strategies, canonical data models, shared data contracts and API‑driven integration patterns.
  • Regulatory & Control Awareness: Experience working in regulated financial environments with exposure to data governance, reporting controls, audit readiness, data lineage and retention requirements.
  • Product & Portfolio Leadership: Demonstrated ability to define roadmaps, curate backlogs, set acceptance criteria and prioritize use cases for reuse and business value.
  • Governance & Standards Enforcement: Experience stewarding design patterns, enforcing standards and embedding governance into delivery processes.
  • Stakeholder Management: Strong communication skills with the ability to influence across business, technology and operations in multi‑location environments.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Experience guiding cloud and data platform modernization (e.g., data lakes, warehouses, streaming, real‑time payments integration).
  • Familiarity with ISO 20022 and Payments data transformation initiatives.
  • Exposure to data mesh concepts, domain‑oriented ownership models and federated governance.
