Job description

Leads the strategic vision and roadmap for a technical product or products within a specific business area, demonstrating a deep understanding of the product(s). Products may have enterprise-wide implications.

Personal Wealth Data Strategy is hiring a Data Product Manager to guide the development of trusted data products for analytics and insights producers to enable data driven decisions. We are looking for mavericks and visionaries, storytellers and D&A advocates, influencers, and internal consultants. Data is at the core of our next chapter as we embark on initiatives to deepen relationships with clients, scale digital experiences, and leverage AI to serve our clients in new and exciting ways. The Data Product Manager acts as a central connector within the organization, bridging business needs, technical solutions and data capabilities. This role is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end lifecycle of data products, ensuring alignment with strategic use cases, and fostering consistency and interoperability across data ecosystem. The Data Product Manager collaborates with data engineers, architects, product teams, business leaders, analytics, and other stakeholders to strategize and deliver high-impact, scalable, governed, and reliable data products. Specifically, you will:

  • Actively engage with the stakeholders to understand their business requirements, create a data product vision and roadmap, and establish an effective feedback loop to ensure the data product meets the original requirements.
  • Develop deep understanding of operational data stores within your data domain, build strong ties with the product teams, and ensure data quality considerations through the data pipelines.
  • Create and lead a development plan that breaks down the product vision into broader deliverables and then manage smaller stories in an agile environment to enable effective prioritization and collaboration with a dedicated team of experts (e.g., data engineer, data architect, data analyst). Be able to identify obstacles and roadblocks, recommend solutions, and seek others to help remove these barriers or reprioritize when necessary.
  • Communicate in a clear and concise manner complex design and data concepts, clearly articulate updates and progress towards goals, in both written and verbal communication channels.

Some of the critical success factors are:

  • Strong consultative skills: ability to engage with leaders at various levels and to meet them on their terms; exceptional strategic and analytical thinking skills; ability to engage with a diverse set of audiences. Strong relationship management and influence skills to coordinate across many stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of the data product(s): the data product development cycle; data flow and data pipelines, from source to analytics; data product standards and best practices; the ability to effectively navigate within a complex organization, understanding impact of data modernization efforts (e.g., PAS Data Modernization) combined with ability to influence / re-design existing practices.
  • Strong technical skills: understanding of AWS cloud infrastructure and commonly used data services, tools and languages (e.g., Athena, Sagemaker, SQL, Python); foundational knowledge in data management, analytics, data engineering (data pipelines, storage technologies, integration, and quality assurance), and alignment with organizational data architecture; understanding of conceptual, logical, and physical data models; ability to define and govern metadata and semantics.
  • Ability to drive high quality work through a cross-functional team and to execute and drive the development independently, when needed. Embody the propensity to effectively manage multiple priorities in a matrix environment.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and appetite to learn: the environment in which we work is continually evolving. As new technologies and best practices emerge, a successful product manager is eager to become an expert in them and implement them into their daily product line.
Core Responsibilities
  • Leads technical product management activities for multiple technical products, or one strategic technical product. Participates in the design and continuous improvement of the technical solution.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to create best practices that drive significant change to the client experience.
  • Coaches technical product teams towards best practices and learnings. Ensures delivery of messaging, communication, and customer outreach as necessary.
  • Partners with stakeholders to resolve production and implementation issues in a timely manner, and supports/drives escalations where required to enable rapid delivery.
  • Leads the planning, development and implementation of new technical products. Defines and analyzes technical markets, developing detailed product features and requirements, and developing implementation plans.
  • Employs a variety of qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques to continually improve the user experience.
  • Participates in and provides recommendations for ongoing business planning and departmental prioritization activities.
  • Participates in the team’s engineering practices in development, continuous integration, and automated deployment.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
