Job summary

SYSTEM West Virginia University Health System is seeking a data analytics professional to design and implement analytical solutions, improve reporting processes, and support enterprise BI efforts. You will work with Tableau, Power BI, SAP, and Epic platforms to meet department needs and ensure data accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in IT/CS/Engineering/Business or 4 years of data analytics experience.
• EPIC official designation of “Proficient” within the new hire probationary period.
• Master’s degree in IT/CS/Engineering/Business/Administration (preferred).

• Gains a thorough understanding of the database structure and BI tools to create analytical solutions.
• Serves as first point of contact for data analytics and process improvement.

Assists customers in identifying reporting/data extraction solutions to meet functional needs, streamline or assist with operations, and ensure patient safety and confidentiality. Minimum Qualifications

Experience

• Attends courses in performance improvement activities, system design, technical training, statistical analysis, and other appropriate subjects.
• Provides assistance in problem identification, resolution, and solution design for a variety of business needs under the direction of an experienced analyst.
• Project Coordination- Reviews, identifies and documents any issues, barriers, or risks and brings them to management’s attention.
• Manages workload and balances quality of work with deadlines to fulfill user expectations and project goals.
• Manages expectations and engages management to review/resolve any potential changes to project scope, expected deliverables, etc.

Additional Job Description

• Works to build data literacy across departments outside of Enterprise Analytics, helping end users become more confident and self-sufficient with reporting tools
• Supports end users in understanding and interpreting Epic-based reports, building foundational comfort with report structure, filters, and basic data concepts
• Helps drive adoption and confident use of Tableau dashboards among non-technical staff, focusing on self-service navigation and everyday practical use rather than report development
• Supports departments in adapting to Power BI/Fabric dashboards as part of the organization's shift away from Tableau, easing the transition for non-analytics users
• Develops accessible enablement materials — job aids, quick-reference guides, and how-to content — that help users answer their own reporting questions
• Fields day-to-day questions from departments about accessing, reading, or troubleshooting Epic, Tableau, and Power BI reports, escalating more complex issues as needed
• Serves as an associate-level data steward for assigned reporting domains, helping monitor basic data quality, flag inconsistencies, and route data issues to the appropriate analyst or data owner
• Assists in maintaining data definitions, report metadata, and documentation to support consistent understanding of key metrics across departments
• Builds relationships with departments outside Enterprise Analytics to understand their reporting needs and identify recurring data literacy or data quality gaps
• Gathers and synthesizes feedback from end users to help improve report usability, clarity, and data trust over time
• Develops working knowledge of the organization's core reporting tools and data governance basics sufficient to explain their purpose to a general, non-technical audience
